I did a lot of experimenting with Biplanes this year, which resulted in a kind of lengthy video, so this video is really only for Biplane enthusiasts! I'm not totally happy with any of the biplanes to date, but I do have a new design for next Fall.

Thank you, the prop is the most important part of the airplane, so it's worth building a lot and getting it down!

Love the experimentation and interesting video! I've been flying science olympiad, but have been looking deeper into free flight and penny planes, and interested to see more! One question, do you think that this kind of elliptical wing would have an increased lift in heaver classes such as science olympiad (8 gram min weight)? if so, how would you go about implementing it?

I don't think it's the weight class (though 8 grams seems really heavy!), that's the wing loading, it has more to do with how much area you lose by going elliptical over rectangular, which I think may not be much for pennyplane. I'm not really familiar with the SO designs, so I can't say. However, so far it appears from my comparisons that an elliptical has more lift compared to a rectangular of the same area, but I'm still looking into this.

rule state the plane should fit into a box around 27cm x 34cm x 43cm so wing areas a usually pretty big. There are some kits used for competitions, most competitive being on freedomflightmodels, so you can see the design choices that he made to get a kit that usually can fly up to around 3:00. Also JH aerospace has one as well.

Can you use other types of wood instead of balsa please I’m a ten year old boy who loves aviation I need to make one that flys but I never made one that flys

You really need to use balsa for indoor, you can use carbon fiber for some stuff but not all, and its more expensive. I recommend that you go to J&H aerospace - they have a bunch of nice indoor kits for beginners, that will have everything you need plus instruction, ask for a kit for your birthday!

Very nice build. I am building an a-6 class tandem model and the forward wing is too weak and sometimes collapses. What’s the best way to reinforce it without adding a significant amount of weight?

Best way is to use a boron strip, I don't like using boron but it's perfect for wing-strengthening. Another possibility is to use a nylon thread reinforcer, or another balsa strip.

@@olbill70 Oh yeah, I forgot he mentioned A6! For A6 I usually just put some white glue on the LE to stiffen it up, or you could use a balsa strip.
