Hey there vinyl lovers! Join me in my new series that’s all about records! I’ve been a collector all of my life and there’s nothing I enjoy more than picking out a good album and watching it spin!
This episode is all about making your inner sleeves anti-static. There are two ways to do this, first you can simply purchase poly-lined anti-static sleeves from amazon: LINK: www.amazon.com/Protective-Sleeves-Vinyl-Collection
The second method is a little more creative and it gives you the chance to maintain your nostalgic sleeves that have liner notes or other things you want to keep. I use these round bottom inner sleeves from Taguchi: www.amazon.com...
Why do this? Because if you love vinyl like I do, you want to take care of your collection. From the covers to the wax, all of this is FOR THE RECORD!

Sir I love the way you think out of the box and I thank you for sharing your tips!!! Having said that aside from cleaning up the jacket and record, my goal is always to leave everything in like new condition as much as possible without making permanent modifications. Think of what they might do in a museum… clean up and restore but make no modifications. I leave the original inner sleeve inside the jacket… put the jacket in its own plastic sleeve, put the record in a plastic inner sleeve and then put that next to the jacket in the jacket’s sleeve. My records never go in the original jacket ever again but I have all of the original sleeves and jacket to admire for the rest of my days. I’m just giving food for thought, and thank you again for sharing your tips

Interesting ideal, For me if I have a record with printed paper inner sleeves I don't use them! I store them in the jacket. I then use a anti-static rice paper sleeve like the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs inner sleeves. There are other rice paper inner sleeves without the MoFi branding that may cost a little less. A good, better, best for inner sleeves would be. Vinyl Inner sleeves = Bad - They can in some cases react with the vinyl record surface making a once shiny record look blotchy, this also will created surface noise. It might take a year or more for this to happen, once it has there's no repair or cleaning that will fix it. To identify these sleeves they are a cloudy whiteish/clear with a waxy/oily feel, they seem innocent enough but I will always replace. FYI even stuff coming out of RTI one of the best pressing plants in the US will use these sleeves and I'm not sure why. Paper inner sleeves = Good - They can cause scuffing on records but it's better than none! I always replace them with rice paper sleeves. Poly-lined Paper inner sleeves = Better - If a new record comes with one there no need to replace it. Rice paper inner sleeves = Best - Clearly MoFi uses them on there pressings and Analogue Productions as well. Both are audiophile level pressings! The consensus in the VC is rice paper inner sleeves are the best. :)

I use these plastic inner sleeves but place them inside the white paper sleeves (or printed inner sleeve, if it has one) to give it extra protection and so it's not as flimsy on its own. No glue used, though.

I don't generally like destructive mods like adding glue or tape, but with half-destroyed paper inners there's really no other way if you don't want to do what I generally do, which is to simply replace the inner sleeve with a lined paper one like you showed, and leave the original damaged paper sleeve with its lyrics, artwork or other information in the jacket as well. Most cardboard jackets are roomy enough to hold an extra empty sleeve in such a way, but non-gatefold double LPs sometimes aren't, or if the original inner sleeves were thick cardboard instead of paper.

Hi Brian - great series! You recommend Taguchi sleeves but can recommend a source that doesn’t require shipping and customs costs from Japan?

Noooo! Glue the plastic sleeves to white paper sleeves! Keep the original sleeves inside the cover. Both will fit.
