I tried this method and does improve wrinkled and bent sleeves and covers. But I used the parchment paper tip as well. So put a piece of parchment paper over the sleeve or cover so your not ironing directly on the sleeve but the heat goes through.

HI everybody where I can find a ready-made file or something similar that can help me to create/modify and replace the spines of vinyl covers? I saw the video but I don't know how to do it in practice. Can someone help me? Thank you so much Fabio

Sir I love the way you think out of the box and I thank you for sharing your tips!!! Having said that aside from cleaning up the jacket and record, my goal is always to leave everything in like new condition as much as possible without making permanent modifications. Think of what they might do in a museum… clean up and restore but make no modifications. I leave the original inner sleeve inside the jacket… put the jacket in its own plastic sleeve, put the record in a plastic inner sleeve and then put that next to the jacket in the jacket’s sleeve. My records never go in the original jacket ever again but I have all of the original sleeves and jacket to admire for the rest of my days. I’m just giving food for thought, and thank you again for sharing your tips

Oh heck no on the tape usage, why not use double sided tape on the inside on the jacket at the seams? And for the cleaning the outside of the jackets I go a bit gentler, how about baby wipes and dry it off with the microfiber towel? Just the same thank you for sharing your tips!! And Please stop using the tape on the outside of the jacket, you’re hurting my eyes lol

Oh no... place the tape on the inside of the sleeve, slide it in on a tip of a knife or something similar, as for the tops, again the plain inside, using the edge of a small ruler, then trim off excess tape with scissors...

I use these plastic inner sleeves but place them inside the white paper sleeves (or printed inner sleeve, if it has one) to give it extra protection and so it's not as flimsy on its own. No glue used, though.

Putting tape on a record sleeve is not preserving it, is just damaging it! Keep the original sleeve apart & the record in a new plain sleeve and then both together in a plastic sleeve (not PVC), this is the way!

For the love of God.... Don't use a credit card. Just fold a paper towel till it's about an inch wide. You'll NEVER damage the record that way. Less mess too.

Photoshop can get the job done, just like you can use a screwdriver for a hammer. There are just better tools for the job. But what baffles me the most is why not rotate the document 90 degrees, to much easier read what you write?

wood glue cleaning doesn't work...sorry but it's a complete waste of time! Never, ever run a hair dryer on your vinyl nor use sharp instruments...also, wet cleaning AFTER wood glue "cleaning" defeats the whole purpose! SMH

cant seem to get the glue off... did one side of the albums perfectly then switched sides.. same process kept the house at 64 degrees and cant get the glue off... seems to have boded super tight...made paper tabs and they just ripped off???? get a hairdryer or what?

Hi Lionel! I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you! May I ask, what type of glue did you use? I would suggest using a hairdryer over the record for a few seconds just to soften up the glue, you should be able to peel it back afterward.

@@vibefrequencyable Perfect! Definitely try the hair dryer first. Hold it about 12 inches away from the record and just use the low setting on the dryer to just warm up the glue. After about 10 seconds or so, you should be able to peel it back.

....hey Brian - I'm noticing "textured" paper album covers (Eagles "on the border", one of these nights etc...)....seems like anything "liquid" would immediately be a TERRIBLE IDEA.... trying to use anything to clean them (right?). however, the majority of albums have what appears to be a waxed-like coating on them? Can you speak to this in little more detail? Thanks for the video!

Great series! I'm currently wet cleaning my albums but have a couple that need the glue treatment. One improvement I might try is to embed a piece of Scotch tape into the glue before it dries. Use that as a handle to start the peeling process. I'm just concerned about using the pick and possible damaging the record.

Use a wooden toothpick, works great to lift off the dried glue edge and less likely to scratch the vinyl.

I think you could categorize album covers as ephemera, like old newspapers, vintage cards, letters, any kind of paper item. So I would not use tape on the outside of album covers. Personally I wouldn't use tape, glue or anything on the spine or outside. I think cleaning them is fine but I would leave them as is. The only time I would use tape would be double sided tape to the sleeve if it has come apart, and the tape would be on inside on the brown unprinted side of the sleeve along the flap edges.

If you are going to Spin Clean (twice?) and vacuum dry anyway, does the glue treatment really matter? I would like to hear a sound sample test before and after to really compare if the glue treatment makes a difference. I will wager that a good wet cleaning is all you need. Maybe save the glue for any really gunky records.
@tonysailer8470

Why can't the new spines fit the entire length of the record? They make longer paper and the short "fake" spines just look amateurish. If you are going to go to the trouble of making them, make them fit.

Great video Brian, but can you do one on how to construct a new 45 jacket to replace ones that don't have them? I know it's easier to buy plain sleeves, but what if you want to construct your own picture sleeve?
