Ford 6.6 timing at 19

Testing out after advancing the timing to 19, from 15. Pretty snappy response. I only had 1 battery to start it, so it was a little slow cranking.

@MACKmodeler100 Most of the ones I remember use the alternator as the signal.

@nevrenufhp Do you know if there is any place on the injectorpump where there would be a tach drive? I am putting this motor in my tractor

@MACKmodeler100 I would think the front cover of the timing case. Not 100% sure.

@kuklok1989 lol.....she said, "what the f'! I didnt know it was going to be THAT big". There were a few other choice words too. She knew an engine was coming home for my birthday, though.

Hey buddy do you know if the 6.6 and 7.8 share a fuel injector? I have a ‘91 F700 with the 6.6 and I’m looking for injectors to no avail...

Paul Fetscher , the 6.6 and 7.8 can interchange. You just can’t use one off a tractor. The biggest ones are these from a 240-270hp 7.8: Bosch 9430082711

nevrenufhp do you think I should really go with the biggest ones? I don’t want to be too smokey and have high egt’s. It’s a workhorse. I definitely plan on doing your fuel adjustments but I want to get a fresh set of injectors in there first.

Paul Fetscher , they are not that much bigger than the lowest hp. It won’t smoke unless the pump is adjusted to do it.

Paul Fetscher , there is a lot of room for big power if you wanted. These can be a real torque monster with a big pump and turbos. Plus, they can spin to 3990 without changing valve springs.

What was the timing on the engine factory? My 92 6.6 is at 7. I already have the fuel turned to it now but I think it's time to give it some more timing.

It was 7.5 originally. The responsiveness was the best part.

@@nevrenufhp well that's what I need to get rolling a little quicker with a loaded gooseneck. Guess I'll have to turn it up some.

@@nevrenufhp I've already ground the fuel plate. may tighten up the governor springs a click or 2 also so it gives it full fuel longer instead of cutting out at the higher rpm

After removing the pump idk what the timing of the pump is at. I just get white smoke coming out the exhaust

Sounds like it’s a tooth off, towards retarding. You might have to take the cover off to nudge it over a tooth, but it’ll be easier to see all the marks.
