In my videos I talk about my experience daily driving my 2020 F450. My truck has updated 6.7 Powerstroke with 1,050 LB-FT of Torque and 475hp. I also feature my 2019 F250 with the 6.2 L gas v8. AND NOW WE HAVE A F350 WITH THE 7.3 GAS V8. Comment below and thanks for watching!

I have a 2022 F350 XLT with the 7.3 and 3.73 rear end. Had it for a year now, and am averaging 14.5 mpg for the life of the vehicle. I tow a 7.5k lb travel trailer, with two atvs on a truck bed rack. While towing, I get 10mpg on average. I do not regret the upgrade for one second. Two weeks ago I towed up the most rigorous mountain pass in Utah (Fairview Canyon). It has an 8 mile stretch of severe gradient with many, many switchbacks preventing a run up. It is all about the torque. I cruised up it in third gear with no over heating of the engine, or trans (on a 95 degree day). My truck has a max payload of 4.1k lbs, and I could not recommend this set up more highly. Awesome video.

No way your from utah?? The roads are no joke through the mountains here, my 6.4 powerstroke handles them great hut I would love a 7.3 godzilla, I have a 460 from 93 with 4.10 gears and she has heaps of power but gets toasty going through sardine canyon on the first climbs. Both awesome trucks but I think the 7.3 is the best choice if only I could afford one haha

Where you discuss the 6.2l with the 6 sp. vs. the 7.3l with the 10 sp. at 19 minutes in is exactly what I noticed when towing a camper with my 6.2l and 6 speed! It downshifts but because of the gear spacing, it actually not only picks up the speed it lost, it keeps gaining and then you have to let off the throttle. I personally think a simple 8 speed without all the fancy gear skipping programming of the 10 speed would be perfect. Leave the bottom and top gear ratios along but put 6 more gears more closely spaced between them and it would be the perfect combination.
@Anthony-qq2ue
@Anthony-qq2ue Жыл бұрын
One thing you might not know about the 10 speed is that it actually operates off a combination of only 4 gears, and the combination of each planetary gear engaging the output shaft determines the 10 different gear ratios. So the 10 speed has less moving parts than I thought it would...

I had a 17 f250 with the 6.2 and 3.73 gear. I traded it for a 22 f250 equipped the same except for the 7.3 10 speed and 3.55 gears. It is night and day with acceleration with the 7.3. 6.2 is a great engine and not a bad choice at all but if you can swing the extra cash the 7.3 is worth it. I lost about 1 to 2 mpg empty but I get 2 mpg better towing g with the 7.3. I tow a 32' 10k horse trailer.

9:12 yeah but the diesel is another $9,000 up front and then 15 quarts of oil and filter changes and def and that truck is moving right along with 8-10k pounds behind it at a lowly 1,500 rpm. Think about it that engine makes the same torque as the famed 7.3 diesel except with double the horsepower. The famed 7.3 diesel only made 500 ft/ lbs but it got the job done and so does this engine with easy 8 quart oil changes.

I believe you are correct. I have had new Ford trucks in 92', 01', 04' 15' & now a 21' 7.3l. The transmissions in these "learn" how you are driving. I tow a travel trailer a fair amount. It takes the truck 50-100 miles to run differently (maybe the air & fuel mix as well ?) after I have city driven for a couple hundred miles & visa versa.

Opinions/recommendations needed: I have only one application that I need a truck for. I’ll have around 8 miles of dirt road (private/non-maintained dirt road/easement/private driveway) in rural Central MN that I’ll need to have plowed throughout the winters. I will opt for the F350 regular cab 8 foot long bed …should I go with the 6.8 L or would I need the 7.3? Then what gear ratio? 3.73 or higher? Then what about the non-limited slip differential or the electronic locking? I’ve never owned a truck and I am a rookie, I appreciate any recommendations. daily driving would be minimal since I will use my car Any chance I get versus using the truck. (truck mainly for plowing. )Thanks.

Good question. Engine won't matter too much. More power the better but can also save the money. If you can get a 4.30 gear it will help more than the bigger engine. But either will work. Limited slip is better but not needed, Daul battery and alternator is nice to have. For dirt roads a nicer tire out the factory can be helpful.

payload: I saw the same thing with the '22 250 vs 350. I bought a 250 to tow our travel trailer. I didn't want to get burned by payload again so that was what I was looking to max out. Since I'm not using the truck as a work vehicleI wanted to stay below the GVWR threshold for my state (10k). Payload on the 350 is less than 250 at 10k lbs. 3470lb for the 250 (short bed crew cab 4x4) 3220lb for the 350 - baseline brochure numbers. Is 3470lb overkill for my application (4700lb dry)? Yes. Is the peace of mind of knowing I'll never get close to that number again worth it? Also yes.

Just as an FYI... My F350 XLT 7.3L , 3.73 rear has a payload rating of 4480#. This is w/o the snowplow or camper pkg. I was not aware you could get a gas F350 with a payload rating as low as your 2850#. Not sure why you would opt for the lower rating? The only difference between a gas F350 & F250 is one leaf (overload) spring & the badging. The extra leaf adds ~1k more payload. Nut for nut; bolt for bolt are the same the last few years. Back a few years they had ever so slightly different differentials; but not the last few years. It appears you only have~280 miles on the clock You'll see a difference when you hit 2-4K in mpg's & performance. Ford's website shows the 7.3 & 6.2 gas engines both weigh 580#'s. 7.3 TQ curve is quicker and flat.The 6.2 need to wind up & rev. Old school push rod vs twin cam. In my experiences the 7.3l is a better tow engine.

I am likely to buy the 7.3 Godzilla on my next truck. I think the 7.3 will give a boost in power, torque and fuel economy w/ the 10 speed. Currently, I have a 2020 F250 w/ the 6.2 Boss engine. 1/2 of my 67K miles have been towing a 22' equipment hauler loaded up to about 10,000# average. The 6.2 Boss does a great job and I get 11 to 12 MPG. I went from a 2016 F250 w/ the Power-stroke diesel. Loved the diesel. The transition to the 6.2 gas has come with plenty of power for what I do. I do wish it got a little better fuel economy but most people buy a HD truck to work, not fuel economy.

@@mjmjersey The Powerstroke was an awesome truck but the gas truck does exactly what I need to do. I rarely two over 12,000 # and probably 2-3 times per month max. In North TX there is about a 1.00 per gallon spread between gas & diesel. Maintenance on the gas engine is less expensive than the diesel engine as well. I may own a diesel again some day but for what I do, there is really no need. Since I commented, I traded the 6.2 Boss for a Chevy 2500 HD with the 6.6 gas and I am really enjoying it.
