How I install springs in the lower hinge of vintage Ford products. A little tricky, but way cheaper than buying a new hinge.

Thanks so much for showing us how YOU put on door hinge springs. My driver's door hinge was in great shape but the original spring was broken into four pieces. I used four zip ties and the first time I tried to put it on they all squiggled to one side like you said they would. I re-positioned them, put it in place the best I could then used my biggest flat screwdriver and a wood shim to pry against and with some prying back-and-forth it popped right on! Getting four zip ties off was a little hard. Now the driver's door on my '64 Comet will stay open like it should! That's a great idea you came up with!

Thanks! I wish I could have actually shown it but with my limited camera equipment it wasn't possible.

Years ago in 1974 when I work at a Ford dealership this is when there was no zip ties what are the mechanics you put the spring in a vise and use bailing wire to hold the spring compressed

I have a 62 falcon that the door hinge spring is missing. The door sags way down when it's opened. Does the spring keep the door from sagging? The hinge itself looks good. Any help is surely appreciated.

No, these have nothing to do with a sagging problem. As long as your door isn't damaged or the metal cracked at the hinge, I'd recommend new hinges in your case.

Thanks for responding. The hinge looks fine from what I can tell. They're really beefy. I've seen rebuild kits for it with new bushings and pins. Don't know if that'll help or not. I hate throwing money at things like this. Never seems to work out right for me. Thanks again

You've got play (looseness) somewhere. You need to have someone wiggle the door up-and-down to see where the sagginess is coming from and take it from there.@@mikemoore9134
