Excellent video. Thanks. My original thought was to use my MIG welder to weld a bolt onto the top of the pin and use a slide hammer to remove it. I drilled a hole on the other side of the pin and am attempting to drive the pin out from the bottom. But, I should have seen your video first. I hope the small hole I drilled won't be an issue. Well, update! The little hole worked! I drove the pin out from the back hole I drilled into the hinge. I used a socket as above for the 2 other pins.

@@AutoRestoMod , all okay. It was fairly wallowed out from what looked like 300K miles, and the fix would not have met your standards. :( It's been great learning from your crew and other folks, so I can make a DIFFERENT set of mistakes. LOL

I agree with getting a good Vice. I’ve been through a few. People ask why I have such a big Vice. I tell them, that I didn’t just buy a big vice, I ended up with one.

I had a friend I worked with at Borg-Warner automotive, and he had to buy only the best of everything in tools. He bought a Starrett Vice that cost him over $400!! More money then brains? lol However, we made a ton of money working 7 days a week and unlimited overtime in the 90's.

Great video. Had replaced hinge on 1966 Mustang project because I couldn't figure out how to get that pin out. The OER replacement was typical Chinese fit and quality. Luckily I had saved the old hinge. Rebuilt it to good as new. Chinese hinge is going in the scrap barrel. Thanks much!

Simply weld a nut on the broken shaft then pry it out with 2 pry bars. Easy peasy. I quit doing it the way you did about 20 years ago

I've never had any luck with those bronze bushings lasting for any length of time. I've haven't seen any of those on OE hinges on cars I've owned. Usually, I just change out the hinge with a good used one or a new OE replacement. If you were going to repair it, you could weld the hole and re-drill it. It would be way stronger than the bronze. The doors, especially 2 door car doors, are just too heavy for the soft bronze to last. An old timer told me a long time ago the hinges get worn from unbalanced tires beating them besides normal use. I had a car that I just worked on that was the worst I ever owned. You would have thought it was a NYC taxicab.

I really appreciate your videos . I am rebuilding my doors on my falcon Ranchero 1964 are there anyone that sells door skins ? I am working on rebuilding the trail gate What a mess...... Im going to if I have to pull the skins off my exisiting doors and then do what I need to on the inside of the door and then put it back together. The undercoating gunk really sucks.

@@AutoRestoMod thanks. If it doesn’t work for you that’s ok. I’ll hand the wife some earplugs or shut the office door and turn it way up. The problem is on my end. Too many years of guns and motorcycles without ear protection. If I’d only known.
