In this video I present the Ford Escort 2000 RS model with a trailer carrying a glider. This model hit the market in 1978. At the same time, the Lesney company also sold this glider with other models. Among them was a Jeep and a Porsche. My set was made from various parts that I bought at a flea market. They did not have a glider model or a glass top of the trailer. I borrowed these elements from a collector in Poland to be able to make my parts in a silicone mold. The Escort was a budget model that did not have active suspension. The set was sold in a blister pack. I made my conceptual box based on box graphics from that period. Great video. Fortunately for me, I have three sets. Two are yellow with jees. One missing the glider. The third one is new old stock. A Porsche with glider.

Two things. First amazing work. Beyond the skill I have. Second, since you were redoing the axels anyway, and spot welding the end, wouldn't it have been easier to clip the cap from the wheels then drill through the metal holders? then run the axels through the intact metal holders for the axels?

I'm pretty sure the original wasn't painted either. Matchbox (and all other toy car makers) were in a full cost-cutting mode at this time and accesories/loads for cars, trucks and trailers tended to be single colour, unpainted, very simple (like Kinder eggs toys, really) and flimsy. You'd be really lucky if the makers even included stickers. If you look at the model itself, it's equally spartan: no suspension, minimalistic light details, primitive steering wheel, no opening parts and even came in a bubble pack as Paul explains. Despite of the poor quality, I feel it's nevertheless a good addition to any Matchbox collection, helping us understand the timeline of the rise and fall of Matchbox, and the restoration is - as always - top notch!

Panie Pawle, pozwolę sobie nie zgodzić się z tezą, że był to model budżetowy escorta. Były wersję z żenująco słabej jakości plastikowym podwoziem oraz czarnymi nieprzezroczystymi szybami. O ile dobrze pamiętam "sdiełano w Kitaje" ;)
