Comparing the base specs first, the Silverado and the F-150 are very close in base price with the Silverado EV Work Truck costing $39,900 and the F-150 Lightning Pro just $74 more at $39,974.
However if you want the top of the line trim, The Silverado EV RST First Edition will cost $105,900 and Ford is charging $90,874 for the F-150 Lightning Platinum.
The Silverado has 664 hp and 780 lb-ft and the F-150 - 563 hp and 775 lb-ft.
Both trucks will go from 0-60mph in less than 4.5 seconds.
Payload rating: 2,000 pounds for the F-150 versus the Silverado EV WT's 1,200 pounds
At 10,000 pounds, the Lightning will initially have more towing capacity than the Silverado EV WT's 8,000 pounds. If you want to match Fords towing capacity you’re going to have to upgrade to the RST trim.
In addition to that, Chevy is working on a Max Tow version of the work truck that can trailer up to 20,000 pounds and that’s double what the Ford can tow.
The Silverado EV Work Truck has an estimated range of around 400 miles while the F-150 Lightning Pro needs to be plugged in at the 300-mile mark.
The Chevy is also compatible with 350-kW DC fast chargers, while the Ford can draw a maximum of 150 kW. That means the Chevy gets back to work sooner.

The Rivian R1T might be the EV truck for you then, its smaller then full size and still looks really good, if they can get their production ramped up to where it doesnt take 5 years to get one, and who knows when/if they would ever get one to the UK, but would be a good option over there I think. If I ranked what I like best its Cybertruck 1st, silverado 2nd, rivian 3rd, ford 4th, all good EVs, but I love future tech, and a truck that already has capability to drive itself once software is worked out.

I agree. I DO like the Ford a lot...but to my eyes Silverado is the nicer looking machine. I actually like very much the pickup-suv hybrid look that Chevy went for. The removable midgate design also fits my needs to a "T. Same goes for the est 400 mile range and quick charge capability. I would gladly take a less fancy version of RST... For less money...say 55 to 65k max. That'd be ideal. Overall design and size seems like a great daily to get to/back from the yard everyday+ fishing on weekends. Make it dark silver/gray to match my Class 8...I would be thrilled. Make it under 50k and I would go APE!

The Avalanche, the Honda Ridgeline, this Silverado all suffer from a serious and noticeable design flaw -- the sloped rail behind the cab. It's the same flaw, also with the Cybertruck, it makes it so you can't use ladder & pipe racks, camper shells, and cross-bed toolboxes.

@@frankdawe5156 it affects the performance of the truck to people who have truck bed tool boxes. Cmon man I own a silverado right now but if this is what they are doing... calling an avalanche a silverado when it s clearly not. or calling something a work truck that you cant use work accessories with... Like a topper for instance. not without having to reinvest in everything for some totally radical design... Its a huge design flaw. I dont know why they are calling that a silverado. Also the fact that you cant simply replace the bed on that chevy is another flaw for a work truck. If you actually use a truck for work you would know exactly what I mean...... Yeah... Imagine putting those chevys in a fleet. .. And taking one and saying.. I need to put a flat bed on one... or any of the many many many things made for the traditional truck design available to contractors.... The Ford looks like a normal truck, which at the end of the day may help with the sales, since truck buyers are generally conservative. The Chevy looks nice too, but i feel they tried to make it look too "electricky" which may scare off some buyers.

I wouldn't say "conservative". More appropriate term would be utilitarian. Me personally, the "electricky" look reminds me of 50-60s stuff with the giant batman fins (like the 62 Caddy Fleetwood). People that use a truck as a truck won’t buy the electric. Ranger when towing anything will drop drastically. It’s going to take a good 10-20 years for technology to catch up. Until then, gas and diesel are king. If you just drive a truck to work every day and to home depot on weekends like I do, electric is an option. I won’t even consider one for quite a few years. It’s the charging time that’s keeping me away

@@lesterparker1594 I admit that charging time is an issue for those who do a lot of long range driving. But for those who drive less than 250 miles per so a day (the VAST MAJORITY of drivers including those who use their trucks on the job) charging time is irrelevant because they will simply charge at home overnight and leave home with a full charge every day. If they tow (such as someone who may tow a trailer for a lawn service). The range is reduced. But they may still operate within the range daily. Again, the EV trucks are not suitable for everyone. But they are a very viable option for the way the vast majority of drivers operate their trucks.

1st, the work truck Silverado EV has lower output than the other trims. 2nd, F150s range is measured with 1000lbs of payload. It's unclear if gm measured the same way. 3rd, the split bed/cab allows for the bed to move a bit in case of uneven or shifting loads. This is why the Silverado has to have those large sections from the cab to the top of the bed rails, they're structural. Without them the bed can potentially shear off from the cabin. You'll see the same type of structure on Santa Cruz, Maverick, and Ridgeline.

I just see the F150 as a cleaner version of the current truck. The current model has too much going on with all the little bits and pieces on the front end. That said, the Lightining looks cleaner, but also looks more like an appliance. The Silverado looks more up to date and like they actually worked to create something interesting and unique. Capabilities in my book don't really matter as much when addressing the average light truck consumer, most will never operate their trucks at or near its capacity -- nobody brings home that many groceries or packages from the mall. As for commercial buyers, this will be a different matter; and for that we'll possibly also have to look into charging times, range, and other basic operating costs.

How I see the typical truck buyer crowd: many of them are in the blue collar working class with specific work lifestyles, or adventurers with many existing accessories and outdoor tools. They want a truck that just instantly blends into their existing tools and daily processes. The factor I imagine most of those people fear for EVs is that, like for many Tesla owners, EVs are very much a lifestyle change. Most utilitarian truck buyers do not want that. In other words, they want a truck that works with them, and not have to make changes in their work lifestyle for the truck. The 'blandness' of the F150 in that aspect is what would give appeal to those kind of people. I can assure you that most people that are buying outlandish automotive designs like the CyberTruck aren't buying them to use for actual work.

Reading through some of the concerns below and watching the video, I still have to say that I think the Ford doesn’t push ahead enough. The grille could have been more, the overall shape could have been refined slightly, still be a truck, but be more futuristic. Design should be functional. An EV doesn’t need the large grille found on the ICE, so do more than put a plastic cover over it. Ford has taken the cheap approach and for the record, I’m not a fan of GM. Ford trucks are the best, but they’ve got to do more for the future.

First off ,I am not Brand loyal and have had all of the big 3 on our farm over the years. I currently own a 2020 Ram Eco Diesel ,longhorn which is my second Eco Ram. In my opinion no current truck can match the comfort and quiet of these Rams. In your comparison I would take the Chevy as it is more modern, not to the silly extreme of the Cyber truck (I am a big Elon fan but not this ). The split midgate is a marvellous recreation of the Avalanche of which we owned. This makes it so much more versatile. Hauling 8’ drywall sheets ,safe and dry in the rain makes this shine. The split midgate is great. I always wished that in the Avalanche if you had 3 people. I see Ram is touting great things in the EV truck world of late.

What is the distance while hauling a trailer or a load? Drop the trailer to charge at charging stations? Will they compare to diesel engines? If not it won't work for hauling. Hauling capacity and distance are very important. Maybe an altinators or 2 to help charging and distance. Lowering electric cost. Another important factor. If your going to build it do it right.

I mean, I get that looks are completely subjective, but I believe, base on anecdotal conversations, that I represent the average truck buyer and that Silverado is a real bastardization of its namesake. That thing is UGLY. At the end of the day, sales numbers will speak, but I think that Ford is going to CRUSH GM on this Gen1 design.

Very interesting 🤔

Well the Ford has 300 miles of range where the Chevy has 400 miles of range and Ford charges $10,000 for an extra 70 miles of range and towing with the Ford you prob get less than 150 miles of range where the Chevy would at least get 200 miles of range the Ford platinum get 280 miles of range because of all the luxury and added weight

They need to build a Ford travel trailer combo. The travel trailer would have it's own large battery bank and drive motor that works in tandem with the throttle input from the truck. Thereby increasing your range when towing because the Ford designed travel trailer is its own powertrain and assists in pushing. Imagine seeing a truck w/travel trailer attached go 0-60mph in 4 seconds. Wo baby. Not to mention you could camp for a couple weeks maybe longer with the added battery capacity from the trailer.
