Rockport1911 yea it can handle it, but the question is how does it hold up over time... and the answer is they don’t. My dad used to pull 24-32k lbs with a 2001 2500hd duramax for years until he got a different job, and he traded that truck in with 356k miles.

@chevyon37s4 жыл бұрын
Jacob Long you’re either full of shit or it’s a load you’ve pulled very few times. Or maybe just have the lightest 40+ ft trailer and smallest machines known to man. Because for your average 38’+ gooseneck weight and average bobcat weights that’s more than double the rated towing capacity of any 350/3500 made in 2000. You’re talking 28k+ pounds minimum for for a long ass deck over gooseneck trailer and two bobcats. You can maintain (maintenance isn’t the same a repair) them all you want but that doesn’t do much to help when you’re physically exceeding what the parts can handle and they break which leads to having constantly repairing the truck, then still deal with the risk of overheating. I run a 2000 ram 3500 for my old farm truck and with an 18’ bumper pull skidloader trailer and a 10k lb T650 on it with nothing more than a bale spear attachment on the truck barely gets out of its own way towing that and that load weight wise is a touch over the max tow rating. and I’ve often exceeded that with adding hay and other attachments on. And the truck with 233k miles hasn’t held up, and it’s maintained the best that you can maintain a truck with regular fluid changes, filters greasing all the fittings, brakes etc. But just little more than a month ago it stripped all the teeth off 4th gear hauling cattle. Three years ago the trans broke an input shaft, it’ll blow the intercooler boots off when towing heavy if you can’t keep it out of higher boost levels, and its had countless U-joints replaced in every location.

BTW that shudder you felt near the top of the grade when hauling a heavy load is the wheels slipping and the limited slip trying to keep up. When hauling a heavy load up a steep grade or a gravel hill I always use 4 wheel full time drive. If I were hauling that heavy truck that 12 percent grade I would have started at the bottom in 4 wheel low and took my time. In any given situation the faster you try to go up a hill the more energy it takes per second or minute. When you stopped and put the Ford into 4 low the transmission temperatures went down. That's because it takes less energy to pull at a slower rate but more time. Basically: "Work Done" = Time x Energy. more Time = less Energy.

Who gives a shit about the truck. It's the other lives on the road. Trust me I move drinking rigs in Northern Alberta and BC and regularly haul 80 000lbs to 120 000lbs + on 24 to 48 wheel or more trailer combinations and the thoughts that trump everything else when we are scaling loads, doing load securement, dealing with mechanics making sure nothing is half assed and trucks, trailers, jeeps and boosters are all in their best working order is the thoughts of everyone else on the roads. A full size pickup could slam into our winch tractors or big bed trucks and they could pass away, we may get whiplash. If we run into a 4 wheeler be it car, truck, SUV, whatever the case, it will likely be a fatality especially if on highways. That's why we do extensive "pre trip" inspections/walk around, always check slack adjusters on our brake, most of us a properly certified and trained in load securement, and so much more. If one doesn't care about their own life they damn well need to care about others.

With the crane part on it, we had 8 axles on the ground. Hard drive but safe. Since then we've replaced all the rear shocks and air springs. Much better ride for the driver. We keep a list: "Must do", "Should do" and "Do when you have the money". Works well - earn the money and then invest it.

dude, fellow Canadian here, i love your videos, but if your gonna keep hauling heavy like you do, you should maybe consider an F-450 without a box. maybe a nice alu utility tray. keep em coming !!

IF you want to lock the trans in 1st gear. You should put the shifter in 1st. Not tell the electronics to do it.
@joelschermerhorn54474 жыл бұрын
The new transmissions have a manual mode that is electronically selected. You can’t physically put the lever down in 1st gear (as far as I know); it’s either D (drive) or M(manual mode).Works great til the computer decides to override it.
@granitecowboy21994 жыл бұрын
@@joelschermerhorn5447 if you look when he shows the dash, the PRNDL has PRND21. So he can manually lock the trans in low. Using manual low will allow the TCM to override the selection and upshift.

It's crazy but what you did sounds like something I would do. Like use my 95 f150 to carry 4080lbs of sakrete and 500 lbs of treated lumber all at 1 time in the bed of the truck. Had helper springs but I was still frame on axle and the tires were squatting some. Yep that's me. Good job.
@brandoncaldwell954 жыл бұрын
2005 silverado Z71 rated towing of 5600lbs. Ive pulled 14,000lbs up a 7%. 5000lbs in the bed is nothing to me... Still have the truck today, but before i blow the trans i figured time to upgrade. Just because it can be done doesnt mean it should be.

I just got a 10 speed and it makes a world of difference towing heavy loads like this!
@ericouellette52934 жыл бұрын
Hopefully he never gets stopped and weighted with some of the loads he hauls. He have some nice fines. Of course not sure how Canada does things. Here in the states he would get fined and not be able to keep going. He would have to get a bigger truck or hire someone to haul it.

I’ve done dumb things like this before. It’s best to get the right equipment to handle the load. I don’t like white-knuckle driving.

So. We hauled two standad tread tractors from Iowa to Ohio with a 88 ford non turbo diesel. Check the weight before unloading 65K plus. Truck was fine and the trailer was fine afterwards. 45K is normal run to the tractor pulls with two or three tractors plus extra weights. One of the biggest problem today is no more sticks and crap for gears with tall tires.
@JackS4254 жыл бұрын
I've only towed a small load in comparison (7,000) but I would think the worst thing to do would be stop on a hill. Even if the trans is suffering, getting it moving would be a lot more difficult.
@mattneal545311 ай бұрын
I have a f250 and as I watch this video, I look down at my truck and think to myself sorry tranny but I’m not stopping bc stopping on the steep hill then start again would seem to cause more damage getting 43 thousand pounds moving again

Hope that trans shuddering doesn't cause issues down the road. If it was shuddering then it was slipping slightly, that is what was causing the temp to go up so fast.
