I like your style!! I guy I worked for started logging in the 80s when he was a young guy and would pull his skider with his 70s ford pick up. He told me once he was trying to get over flint creek pass in Montana and was in 4 low 1 gear and has to zig zag across the road to make it up.

Lucky there young man, you can blow head gasket that way. The extra heat results in the cylinder head and engine block expanding too much which results in a failure in the head gasket.

Hope you use Amsoil engine/differential fluid
@codywillard15085 ай бұрын
One thing all of us pulling heavy have to keep in mind, engine/jake braking heats up differential fluid quickly. This is because there is so much extra friction and heat buildup in the gear set, and the fact that you’re now using 10-40% less of your brakes, which gives you a false sense of how hard the ENTIRE drivetrain is working. The use of brakes also adds heat to the axle, so you have a compounding heat generation. Your gear set in the diff breaks in overtime generally towards acceleration/pulling type forces, and not descent/retarding type forces. This can also cause a slight variation of heat buildup. Usually at 250° it’s already starting the process of degrading, and by 300 it’s usually toast, and most heavy haul trucks have gauges.

Sometimes after something like this you permanently damage the trailer losing the upward bow. A chassis cab Ram 4500 would have handled the load as well as the Ford. My next truck would be a Ram 5500.

What did it weigh? I've printed up a "Rate Conformation" agreement with the pickup and delivery locations, contact info etc. I also added declared weight and and additional charge for over weight at $25 USD per 100 lbs. Last load was listed as 10,000 lbs but I could feel it was heaver. CAT scale said it was 11,680 lbs.. I charged the customer 16 x $25 or $400 extra. I'm tired of getting clipped with extra weight. On a semi it's a problem BUT on a pickup it's a danger and can break your equipment. Last piece of heavy heavy equipment I hauled was a belt press. Was told it was 12,000 lbs. and it scaled ate 18,000 lbs. Hauled it from NJ to MT over 2,000 miles. 500 miles from delivery my RAM transmission blew up even though I was taking it very easy. Cost me over $10k plus a mouth or more of down time. Made the delivery but decided I needed to have a formal transport agreement that gave me extra money when overweight. My observation; 2 out of 3 loads are overweight. John 406 Hot Shot Missoula, Montana
