In this video I show you how easy it is to change the coolant temperature sensor on a 16 valve Ford Fiesta mk6 2004.
The job is very easy and can easily be completed at home with basic hand tools.

I had the same problem with my fiesta I just checked it by doing what you said to unplugged it the fan came on straight away definitely the sensor thanks for your the information.

My fiesta warms up fine and runs fine but overheats when it's sat in traffic idling. I suspect the sender unit isn't switching on the fan until it's too late and is under-reading the temperature as when the car does overheat the gauge reads a normal temperature.

If its overheating but the temp gauge is reading normal then it sounds like you have a dodgy coolant temp sensor. You can test the operation of the fan but unplugging the coolant sensor. This will turn the fan on as a safety feature. Hope this helps.

@@phetolocaciousphora3593 The fan on my fiesta didn't come on when I unplugged the connector. I replaced the sender unit which wasn't expensive and took me maybe an hour with basic tools and it fixed the problem.

Mine did that bf had it changed..... in traffic had to switch A/C on with fan.... to keep engine temp normal...

Hi, I brought a Fiesta mk5 in november and in Winter the fan is running sometimes, not normal in 0-5° Celsius. How It Will be in the Summer? Its a problem? Sorry for bad english

I have a focus mk1 from 2004 with same engine...1.4 16v 75hp...and i don't have the coolant in sensor in that location....is only cover...a metal stoppage...looks like factory made...where can be placed this sensor ? I have check engine light with P117 error in selftest reading...

Great job! I have a 1.4 16V 59 KW,80HP FXJA engine from 2007.Can it affect the idle at start-up, or can it start harder when the engine is cold due to the sensor?

I suppose it is possible if the sensor is telling the computer that the temperature is stupidly cold. I'm not sure what the lowest temperature it goes to but I'm thinking it's like -43. I would assume that might cause a problem.

mine's throwing up P0125 insuffient temperature to enter closed loop; it heats up in good time, sits in the middle, heater works etc. got to check the coolant now i wouldn't have thought the sensor was bad if the heat gauge is accurate ?

The 3 main things I can think of now is either the cooling fan doesnt ever come on., it comes on all the time and doesn't go off or the water temperature guage on the dash doesn't change from where it is. So it never shoes it heating up or shoes its hot when you first start you car in the morning. These are by no means the definitive symptoms and all of these things can be caused by other things aswell the only way to truly know is to test everything separately involved in the cooling system. just replaced my coolant in my fiesta and ran it for 15 mins but my fan didnt come on and the pipes where red hot but it was showing normal on the dash is there a way to test if the fans working

Yes. Simply unplug the coolant temp sensor. It should turn the fan on automatically as a safety feature. If it does its all good. And you need a new sensor. If not it looks like you need a new sensor and a bit more digging to find what else isnt working.

@@andrewrood9200 I'm not sure if it comes on if you unplug the sensor. But it definatly starts the fan up if it's working. And it also makes the temp gauge flash while its unplugged until you plug it and and restart the car

The fan in my car wont come on until I turn the car off when it's too hot. If the car is on, the fan wont come on. But when I turn the car of when hot and the fan comes on, it's too late as the coolant is steaming a bit and bubbling in the reservoir. Is this a sensor problem?

I had the same issue I think it was my radiator that was the problem replaced that and the thermostat and it works fine

Would this work on a 1.4 2005 lx modle or is it a completely different thing as the engine layout and everything looks exactly the same

Off the top of my head I'm not sure. The sensors are normally easy to find and screwed into the engine block. But if the layout looks exactly the same then I would suspect it will. I know my friends ford fusion has the same engine in that and his is a 1.4 too I think. Hope this helps. Cheers

I couldn't tell you. I think it should come on but my car never had AC so I'm not sure

having an issue with my fiesta, cooling fan is not coming on. fan works when power is put direct to it, and temp guage seems to be reading correctly. Fan will just not turn on when required. Does this sensor control the fan?

If you unplug the sensor when the engine is on the fan will turn on and run continuously until you plug it in and restart the engine. If not it could be a wiring issue or a faulty ecm. The fan is controlled through the computer using the sensor, on my car the sensor was faulty but was reeding the temperature on the dash fine.

@@ChrisManChannel This is true, if sensor is unplugged, fan should come on full speed. Check your ground if all else fails. Found a bad ground on mine.

My car's been hesitating under acceleration and sometimes splutters when idling. Happening for a couple months and today it finally threw up the EML. I've changed spark plugs, coil pack and leads and cleaned the throttle body out. Ive been told this might be the problem, do you think this will fix it?

Christian Lott the first thing I would try if you havnt already is the fuel filter. Ive had garages tell me it doesn't have one But it does on the passenger side of the car just in front of the petrol tank. It's like a black 2 inch in diameter canister. I had a problem like that when I first got mine and that fixed it. There only like 12 quid and easy to change.

Okay. So I would be inclined to try that befor you spend any more money on it. It's cheap enough to just give it a go. And realy easy to change. It's just clipped onto the car and a clip on the fuel line eather side of the filter that presses in to remove it.

I found out when my car over heated and it diddnt kick the fan on af few times after. I was just being a parts changer because they where only 12 pound so just replaced it to see if it worked and it sorted the issue. You can de resistance measurements on it to see be I couldn't find what they should be.
