OMG!!! Irony of Ironies. I just pulled my 2011 Ford Fusion FWD 3.0 in the garage to change the driver's rear wheel bearing. I fired up KZfaq to search for some pointers, and low and behold.....today's video is exactly what I'm doing! Been subscribed for a while now, but this might be the first time I have been able to apply your knowledge. I wanted to tell someone about the irony, buy my wife and kids really didn't care. LOL

Going to blow up the interweb by flipping the chisel around and hammering on the pointy end🤣🤣. I will admit to having done that before myself instead of grabbing a drift. Every tool has a hammer end as you have taught us👍. I also like the “shiny” comment, Malcom Renyolds and Jane would approve.

It happens , for me once in 42 years as a mechanic . ... Years ago I did the chisel flip . Just too lazy to walk the four steps to my tool box for a drift . Felt a quick sting in the side of my face and didn't think much of it . Next morning my cheek was out like a chipmunk and I was off to the hospital to get the chip dug out of my face . Glad it didn't hit my eye. Made me a believer in safety glasses .

I feel like the tire mounting machine should play the ice cream truck song when it rotates. Having a bad day? Mount some tires. But on second thought, Eric may have to leave and get ice cream each time, so there's that. The only thing that would have made that bearing setup easier was push-in pistons on the calipers.

I have heard of ,'God made dirt and dirt don't hurt' , but when it comes to the grease scene, I think I have to pass.

Speaking of bolt torque I ask my dad how tight to tighten head bolts, he said “get them as tight as you can the tighten them another half turn”. I did break the first head bolt off. I live in Virginia but I had a 2011 Ford fusion that made it to 321,000 mi before the transmission sent it to the salvage yard in March. Besides normal maintenance the only thing I really had to do to it was replace the driver side CV shaft. Even at the end of its life the engine still only burned about 4 oz of oil over a 10,000 mi oil change which I was really impressed with. And I know several people who share the same story about those Fusions. They were great cars.

@dannyo6699
@dannyo6699 Жыл бұрын
I usually place the sensor just in front of the duck head, that way when you start spinning the rim to dismount the tire, the tire is lifted away from the sensor and the sensor doesn't accidentally get hit by the duck head. But I reinstall the same way. Valve stem leads the tire around the rim. Thumbs up. You'd be surprised how many new guys I tell this to, yet I see them doing exactly what I tell them to not do, then they get all upset when a sensor breaks, and I have to show them what they did wrong since they chose to not listen to me. Oh well.

Nothing to do with the cars, its the people and lack of care. Hose your car down when you get home on the chassis in winter, have it undercoated and protected good with either a spray on liner or some non-flammable protectorate. Good to go. Also try and drive as little as possible on roads right after they were treated, never drive along the curbside lane where the salt brine collects.

A few years ago, I had a 2000 Civic Coupe that I used as a commuter. I was on my way home from work and I honestly don’t know exactly what I was thinking, but I went to make a right turn and somehow I turned too early. The left rear tire ended up whacking the curb really hard. I thought I blew a tire because there was an immediate rhythmic noise. I got out and looked, the tire and wheel were completely unscathed, so I continued home. The next day, I put the car on the lift and spun the wheel. The wheel bearing sounded horrible. I checked the balance of the wheel/tire and it was completely unchanged. Somehow I managed to hit a curb really hard, immediately destroy the wheel bearing but not do anything to the wheel or tire. Basic Michelin tires and Integra GS-R 5-spoke wheels. I guess it pays to use quality parts, an aftermarket wheel would have disintegrated. The wheel bearing had 250k on it so I guess it was just one hard whack away from death. Luckily the wheel bearing is the same style as this, so it took about 10 minutes to replace.
