In this Episode on my 1987 Ford LN9000 I wrap up some odds and ends, swap the fuel button in the Cummins PT fuel injection pump and go for a drive to test out the motor, new air ride axle and shortened driveshaft.

That LN9000 is really coming along there Rob! That L10 sounds so amazing with that straight pipe and the fuel turned up! Don't worry about missing gears, practice makes perfect! Believe it or not, I've got the perfect name for this old girl: Lynn! What do you think of Lynn the LN9000? Personally I love it - that name fits this rig! Don't know if you saw, but I posted a comment on the very first episode of this truck, please make sure you reply to it when you get a chance!

Happy to see truck is coming along. So, how I adjusted mine is I put a gauge on the test port and a snap of throttle I want to see as close to 200 psi as possible. That form all my research is safe range for cam. I also had my injectors opened up so I can add more fuel without pressure. I dunno if any of that makes sense. Can’t wait to see more

That makes total sense. Simple way to push it as far as is safe. Are you running the stock HX50 turbo? I was also curious about your stacks- what diameter are they?
@cabovergary
@cabovergary 2 жыл бұрын
@@robstruckshop80 so my truck has the stock turbo. It came with a h2d. I haven’t changed it because seems to still be in its range. But has crossed my mind before. My stacks are only 5”. Main reason is there is a price jump I wasn’t wanting to go to to go bigger. Mine came from summit and were only like 300 each.

I agree. I was thinking 7” but I can’t justify spending that money so I’ve been looking at 5 or 6”. Smaller pipes are probably better suited to a 10 liter anyway.

The air suspension will have no problems carrying the trailer load. Having so much room behind the coupler would allow you to hang a diesel transfer tank.

I could, but the reality is the gooseneck will be pulled by my F450 99% of the time for work, it’ll really only be behind the L9000 to go to shows or similar.

back up camera under that 5th wheel pointing at the gooseneck ball would be killer!

I agree. Since the Louisville trucks have such a tall cab I can see it through the 5th wheel opening but just barely. As usual, Too many wants and not enough dollars!

I would get some more of the rectangular tube and box in under the goose neck ball for even more rigidity

Great Fab Work!!Just curious why you put the gooseneck behind the rear axle? I know the truck is heavy, but would think it would affect the towing and tight turning. Taking notes so I can apply to our Loadstar
@robstruckshop80
@robstruckshop80 2 жыл бұрын
I would love to have had it in front of the 5th wheel but that would’ve caused some fairly tight clearances from the future mudflaps to the trailer, though it likely would’ve cleared. The bigger issue is that the trailer would have to come up really high every time you coupled and uncoupled to clear the 5th, I’m pretty sure that’s why when people add goose balls to semi tractors they’re almost always behind the 5th wheel.

awesome truck, very good content on the channel. Question about the gooseneck, what would be a good height for the gooseneck ball? Like a range between 30-40 inches, 34-40, etc??? My S1700 truck has a metal bed and the gooseneck ball is at 46 inches high. I need to lower it but want to do it rigth to fit any gooseneck out there. Thanks

Any idea about what makes these engines make a rattle/pinging sound (like over-advanced ignition bad fuel on a gas engine) at light/med throttle but run smooth and quiet when you get on it?
@robstruckshop80
@robstruckshop80 Жыл бұрын
I would say I hear that slightly in mine but in my case it’s what I’d just call valve train noise. Mine is a standard, high flow cooling, non STC engine though- I couldn’t say if an STC motor might have a different sound to it. My best advice would be to run the overhead and verify timing if you haven’t already.
@tcmtech7515
@tcmtech7515 Жыл бұрын
@@robstruckshop80 Thanks, I had all new injectors put in and everything was reset to factory specs so it's not a valve train or obvious timing issue. Idle is smooth and normal and full throttle is solid and smooth too, it's just the mid-range band that has the loud ignition knock/rattle/ping sound.
