Fun Facts for the Boss 302 1. The “red key” that you see in Ben’s hand has a secret little feature, you can get a “Ghost cam” for chop at idle out of it. Kinda rare to get them on used ones now. 2. The car has side pipes, they pop out right by the door and have can be made to sound very pleasant but these cars generally need axle backs. 3. This engine, the “Roadrunner” variant, is well capable of making 1000whp with boost and fuel. It’s the second strongest coyote variant they ever made. Forged rods, pistons, crank, CNC Ported heads, more aggressive cams, and a much improved suspension over a normal GT.

The more that time goes forward and new Mustang come out, the more I appreciate the retro look of the S197. I’d love a GT350 one day nevertheless.

I owned a 12 and 13 Boss 302. The steering feel can be adjusted. My guess is you weren't in Sport mode, which tightens up the steering. This car is ready to hit a track right out of the factory. Adjustable shocks on all 4 corners and a track key that changes a number of the ECU settings make it a very competent track car (I tracked both of mine). The most balanced, fun S197 platform Mustang from the factory IMO.

I sold my 2015 mustang with 32k miles 2 days ago. Near tears all day today. Went back to the dealership and bought it back. They were decent and dropped the prices to near what the gave me. Only problem is I had to pay taxes but I’m glad I got it back. These mustangs are fun and create memories that are priceless and irreplaceable

Love my 12 Kona Blue 302. Great drivers car. The recent GT350, Mach 1, and Darkhorse derived from the Boss 302 in my opinion. It really set the tone for today's performance variant mustangs.

What most people don’t know, this has the 5w50 engine, with higher rpm for racing like the GT350. Most other GT’s that’s not premium gets the standard 5w30 engine that doesn’t rev as much. Got one , 2014 GT premium with the 5w50 engine special ordered! Love mine!⚡️

Still watching, but a few things. That shifter is shorter than stock. Also, would’ve been cool to mention that you could get a track key programmed (lopey idle etc), and, it has side exhausts with baffles you can remove :) I do know because I had that exact car not long ago 🎉

I just bought a 2013 boss 302. Funniest car I ever had. Has a more raw feel to it verses newer cars. My daily is a 2017 Elantra so going from that to the boss on sunny days is insane

Surprised you didn't test drive with the Red key. I'm not sure what it did for the Boss, but it was something. I have a 2014 GT Premium, and the 1st thing I did when I got it was swapping the stock shifter for a Barton and 2 post bracket, and a 1-piece driveshaft. Previous owners put a Boss 302 Intake on and Borla ATAK exhaust, wouldn't have been my choice for the intake though. Car is still very stout and fun even with the current 159k miles. Edit: as far as the steering goes, if it's not in Sport Steering, it'll feel a little sloppy. Mine is always in Sport Steering.

I know Professional race driver Billy Johnson, He raced the BOSS R and help develop the S550 GT 500 … and the new Ford GT! He told me personally ….the BOSS 302 , was the best handling …solid axle sports car ever made! Parnelli Jones that raced the original School bus yellow ‘70 BOSS 302…And won the Trans Am series that year, … he gave his input with development , with FORD before the 2012 BOSS came out. He worked with FORD engineers on the track getting data… using his input for the suspension on this car! He helped develop the handling for the new BOSS with FORD. It’s a Factory race car …if you’re feeling A disconnect with the front suspension,…It may be your steering wheel set up, and you probably weren’t using the Red Track Key That changes a bunch of parameters over 200! These cars also have Adjustable dampeners On all four corners …That can be set up Differently for the track! You should have no disconnect with the front steering/handling on this car! My good friend owns one of these cars, and I know what I’m talking about!

You DO realize you can change the steering feel on the center screen with the buttons on the steering wheel...at least I can on my 2013 GT so I think the boss would definitely do it as well.

I bought a 2013 in Grabber blue new. Had the Track key enabled by Ford in the first month for 200 bucks. Its enables a second tune among a number of other things such as the signature engine lope sound, and this was one of the first US factory made cars that has a PCM that holds 2 tunes. I sold it during the pandemic. A year later looked at getting a 2023 Mach I or maybe a Bullitt Mustang because I missed the Boss so much. I thought the newer Mustangs would be better cars than the Boss. Test drove both of them. I hated the way they shifted: too "high" gears in Mach 1, and the sloppiness in the Bullitt trans. Luckily, I found a low mileage 2013 in Race red with the Recaro seats and the Torsion limited slip setup my other one did not have, at the dealership with the Mach1. It was just coming in for detail after it had been purchased by the sales manager. After I test drove it I bought it on the spot. I found out the former owner never activated the Red key, or pulled out the baffles in the exhaust (another difference between it and the GT). I decided I needed to fix this. After much research, I found out the original track tune became corrupted and Ford lost the ability to load this tune in the PCM for a number of years. After looking at the BOSS 302 blogs Ford Racing either found it or rebuilt it in the last number of years. Ford performance sells a Ford branded (ProCal2 tuner) unit you can buy from them for 500 bucks. However, you will still need to get a Ford tech to flash it. I've never heard anyone, anywhere mention that the hood is fibreglass. This guy didn't either. Also, Edmunds dyno tested the 2012 Boss with the Trackey and it pulled 416 hp at the wheels.

I had the same 2013. Race red. These are numbered cars. Mines was #16 of the line. Fair enough evaluation in terms of muscle car but with a live end it was fun to toss in the corners. Lots of rpm to run the torque to have it behave without grinding the brakes. Severalmruns on the tail of the dragon proved that. The short shift 6 speed was great but agree on the seek and find for reverse. It was however horrible in stop and go driving because it was set for a track. Happy in 3500 rpm and above but below that range it sucked in bumper to bumper stop and go. Constant jerk of a horny adolescent wanting to go off. Done and said, a muscle car and the best of cars are the ones you have to drive. Not the ones that any idiot with a bankroll can drive.

Please don't take this the wrong way. But watching your review of the 2013 Boss 302 and then hearing that you own a 350 was shocking to me. For someone who owns a GT 350 I expected more knowledge of the Boss 302. You sound like someone who had just heard of the car for the first time. The 2012/2013 Boss 302's are the Last Great Analog Mustangs IMO. I have a Perf White 2012 Boss 302 #2558 {yes limited production} purchased new and will NEVER get rid of my car. These cars were built with no compromises regarding powertrains - whereas all Mustangs after IMO have severe flaws. The Boss 302 is the 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 of the modern time - again IMO.

Nothing to do with shelby gt350. Its the boss 302 that had trans am racing heritage... America and Australia .. totally different. Not a 289. And gt 350 didnt have the hockey stick decals like the boss 302. Learn your heritage. Im old enough to have been at tracks where boss 302s raced. Gt350s had back seat delete.
