Slow clap 👏 Beautifully done. Never had a problem with my rear axle until it blew going through the mountains on a cross country trip headed home. Hauled it the rest of the way and put a cheap junkyard axle in that I need to re-seal. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, been fixing my own things off youtube videos and haynes manuals all my life, and this is by far one of the best tutorials I've seen. Straight to the point, lots of quick tips and notices, showed everything beautifully (props on catching that pin btw, that was some quickness lol) and just overall alleviated any concerns or questions I had going into my own. Thank you and have a great day man 🤝

The end of the axle works great for prying the seal out, too!

Thank you. Very informative and direct. I almost came off my chair when you introduced me to the slide hammer... in my ignorance i have destroyed a bearing race (or 3) trying other methods. ThanX again!

My mechanic is coming over tomorrow morning and we're going to give this a try. I have a 94 aerostar van. Thanks for the video I sent it to him via the message of texting so he can watch it before we start doing this.

It's always good and a helpful thing to have these 'how to' video's up here on KZfaq. Thanks for this one. I think though, that I would replace those rear brake shoes, it's just not worth trying to clean that gear oil off or out of them, in my opinion!

Thank you so much for the video, had to replace the rear left axle after spinning out on an ice covered bridge, Got it all fixed. Very informative video. Thank you. Hardest part was adding the fluid!, if i had my transfer pump it would have been alot less messy

Just snapped my axle. Great video to understand how to get it out.
@dumbestoyster4 жыл бұрын
You can use the end of the axle itself. Slipped it in the hole and then pry to the side.

Nice job, but hope you saw there is a broken leaf spring, looks like one of the load springs

For anyone trying to get the drain plug out and it’s rusted on. I had to use a bolt extractor and put a wrench on the back of it and tapped it with a hammer while I was loosening it.

I cannot get the diff to turn once the pin is out. Spinning the wheel just walks the spider gear and the center doesn't move.

I would have added friction modifier to the gear oil, seeing you have a limited slip rear.
@vincentrotondo29154 жыл бұрын
Most of your good gear oils are already premixed with the LS additive. Just double check on bottle you are using.

does each axel have a c clip or or does the removal of the one make it possible to remove either axel?
@davidmills54054 жыл бұрын
Each Axle has a c clip.

I need to replace the driver's side seal. And I've never done this before so bare with me haha.. I didn't see a driver's side key or c-clip for that axle shaft in this video and I wonder how to make it visible, so my question is, what do I need to do to get to that shaft key (or c-clip)?
@John-wo7vv4 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. Need to replace both real axel bearings
@davidmills54054 жыл бұрын
Each Axle has a C clip
@richardjacques17314 жыл бұрын
@@John-wo7vv Once you pull the cross pin out you push one side axle in, remove the c-clip, then pull the axle. Then do the same for the other side. He said he got lucky, because sometimes the c-clip is not oriented so the closed end faces you, you have to rotate the clip to be able to pull it out.
