As a Subaru guy, I've always thought it would be better to supercharge an AWD/boxer powertrain than to turbocharge it. The handling and the AWD keep it so connected to the pavement, that instant boost seems to make more sense than the balancing act of a tuned turbo. Of course whatever floats your boat.

Regarding the inner tire wear- I have a 2nd gen IS that has the same suspension design. The LCA rear bushing is a HUGE rubber piece that offers a ton of compliance. I replaced it with a poly bushing and the wear went away. The change in NVH wasn't perceptible either.

This is the cure, my 98 ls400 ucf20 and 2nd gen IS face this issue with the Lca bushings. It'll cause significant play in kid-heavy braking, play in the wheel when going over bumps and causing severe inner sidewall wear. Hopefully they see this comment

The rear bushings on the front lower control arms are very compliant on Lexus cars. The toe is always changing when braking and cornering causing inner edge tire wear. This is a very common issue on those cars. Check out Figs suspension or RR racing to get a stiffer option.

I've recently acquired two Older Toyos, okay a Toyo and Lexus... and I'm pumping Valvoline in them... noticed your t-shirt at the beginning. kudos!!! I've done my own wrenching for 40 years and I've run Mobile and I've ran them all, even Royal Purple.... I've never settled for convenience store or even Walmart brand.... although I do think it would suffice.... best advice is check your oil and change every year minimal or 75% of recommended use..... I've actually rebuilt a motor and it compromised early in my opinion due to oil issue! I didn't put enough cross hatch on a freshly bored straight six.... The way a motor works is the cylinder walls retain oil splashed up and pushed out under the rings which restricts friction due to up and down movement via cylinder detonation! As a result the oil is exposed to carbon and heat! sometimes extreme.... so many people miss this!! If your doing aftermarket additives?? To prevent excessive wear?? Make sure the engine is actually broke in.... I bought a first year Tacoma (new) and at 25K I decide to treat it with Slick50.... and I owned that truck for 3-4 years and it felt like the engine never broke in properly! I sold that truck almost 3 decades ago and I'm sure it's still on the road and still has that noisy engine.... My Uncle who drove Semi's swore by slick50 and I don't think it is sold anymore... probably relabeled? (break the engine in is my advice!!! when it hits the butter stage then hit it with the additives! ) So currently I own a first gen Tundra with 227,000 miles and runs like an absolute champ! I've owned F-150s and numerous small Toyo trucks and this 1st Gen is my absolute favorite of all time!! Not a small truck or big truck and has a killer engine!! This was a 1 owner before I bought it and has zero rust on frame (common problem and only) motor built in Japan '02.... These 4.7L have ran for 1 million miles! and Transmission usually last to 6-700K or more.... most people neglect the transmission.... so if taken care of they run just as long!! And I own a 2011 built in Japan Lexus ES350 with low mileage.... Just did the spark plugs this week and seemed to be the first.... but I will run full synthetic Vavoline 5-30 in it the duration of its life also.... (in my opinion Valvoline gives the best protection/value) so they say older engines require thicker viscosity for seal protection but that is faulty! Oil should be viscous to lubricate all internal parts of the engine!!! so change the oil more frequently!! and also change out seals if necessary! And newer oil actually hydrates the seals... so win win!!! Change oil because it's Cheaper than a new motor!! The lighter oils was proven by a lab at Mobile 1 to lubricate better... it was undeniable!! so if your cap say's 5-30? then run 5-30 - guy at a parts counter told me to run 10-30 in my Tundra and he was at the Toyota dealership... and he steered me clear of maintenance parts I didn't need for a job! (genuine knowledgeable honest individual) The community is so misinformed it's not funny!! So keep it the same and change it.... end of story!! Oh if you have a turbo?? it shortens the life of lubricants.... an oil change if you do it your self is cheaper than a tank of gas.... lol food for thought!!! I recently sold a 2020 hybrid Limited Avalon because I didn't like the way the car was aging... bought it with 5K with cash and ran it hard for 52k in 2.5 years and the 4 cyclinder Toyota just didn't feel like I wanted (noise was what I expected at 100k-120k).... local dealership paid me way more than I was expecting and I bought the 2 previous cars mention with 5k left over for my wallet. I don't think the newer Toyos are all that of yesteryear... sadly... such a remarkable company. I plan to cash out some stocks soon and do this exact build on a 04 LS430.... I might buy a second LS430 to keep original just because it's the best car ever manufactured!! When these came out the CEO of Ford owned one and said their company didn't have the potential to build this car, and also said it was the best car ever made!! They didn't have the know how nor the machinery.... Lexus pumped a billion dollars into their luxury heritage..... I guess it was the pursuit of perfection... lol

Nice job! Can this SC built be adapted to the LS460?

I think the tire wear issue is same with other Lexus rear drive sedan or coupe ie: GS, RC and IS, so it needs a Polyurethane Front Lower Control Arm Rear bushing, Figs Engineering or RR Racing have it, or you can try and see if RCF or GSF one will fit cuz the F model have stiffer rubber, changing that bushing also helps with steering feel..

If your thinking an ISF for dad duties, I'll tell ya. That back seat is small, especially coming from an LS. My 13 year old detests when she has to fold herself into the back seat lol. My wife has to have her knees in the dashboard to give her enough space. It would be sweet to see you guys do another Lexus build though!

As an original LS430 owner I hate seeing them modified… except this one!

I love this car & this build it was AWESOME! I wouldn't replace that gem of a car if anything I'd keep it & yes that IS-F would be nice but how about a IS 300?

my T-bird isn't a 4 door but the Mercury cougar marauder is a close one, $23'000 is normal after basic service work for a 20-30 year old car. 4 cylinder cars commonly get crushed at that age because the motor is mile'd up to far. "actual truck parts in the small car made for pulling 10'000 pounds on top of the trucks curb weight".

Ask any LS430 owner and they’ll tell you the same thing; NOTHING drives like an LS430. Lexus; the endless pursuit of perfection.

PLEASE go for the 2011+ IS-Fs!!! You’d have much more potential than the first gen ‘08 I’d feel like. Revisioned suspension/handling & better looking with the LSD. I really hope you guys get a 2011+

Hi, You keep mentioning how great the Continental extreme contact tires are. But, they seem to be only avaiable in the US. Where are you getting these tires? (I live just down the road from you by the way)

I think you’ll regurt selling it but I get the project life cycle. I personally would go for less grip, taller tires, street bomber that you can rip on all season. Different is good!
