You must be psychic. I spent several hours this last weekend viewing videos on changing rear fluid but finally got frustrated after scouring your channel in disbelief that you didn't have a video on it. I never feel quite prepared to do a task until I see you show and explain it. And today, Voilà !... A rear diff' video! There are others who have decent videos on it, but your feel more confident and competent. Of the videos, I too watched one by Banks showing his replacement cover. Great presentation with a compelling argument for support. Is it worth $400?... It just might be. So, I have now: * changed engine oil, after watching your video, * changed Xfer case oil, after watching your video, * changed fuel filters, after watching your video, * lubed front axels, after watching your video, * and next on list is rear diff'... of course, after watching your video. I still have front diff' in near future, maybe after you post one. And I had trans fluid done at dealer, but I'll do it next time.

Did a lot of research to see what axle I had in my 2016 F350 Power stroke to be sure I did or did not need the friction modifier. The Ford dealer here was not sure based on my VIN both in the parts department and service department. Needless to say, I wanted to be sure of what I am doing, so I noticed that you had a video that included the electronic differential lock and friction modifier. Now I can rest easy. Thanks for your hard work on making these informative videos!!

Per Dana, you can utilize 75W-90 with the appropriate SHAE-256 spec. This applies to the front and rear Dana axles. On the Sterling 10.5, you can use the more common 75W-90 synthetic oils. I’ve personally ran 75W-140 in my 2017 with the Sterling rear axle with zero issues in temperature as low as 0° F. Personally, I run 75W-90 Mobil Delvac 1 full synthetic on both axles as it meets the necessary requirements for my application. The 75W-85 is not common and is only available through a few sources. Whatever is used, just be sure to change it based on climate and mileage. 30k miles is my personal threshold for axle oils. Your silicone preference is the same as my own. Best one for a diesel engine or an axle. Zero leakage.

Just put a banks on my 2017, the o-ring seal instead of gasket caulk was different. I used the 75W-140 Amsoil serve gear full syth. Supposed to fill to center of sight glass which was only about 2.9 qts for me. Was almost thinking of removing the nut on back diff and fill to top and then see if it's in center of sight glass. They have some fine print on the diff that says use manufacture recommended amount of fluid even if not center of sight glass.... so idk.

If I had the HD Axle like your truck on my duty I’d leave it alone as you have the drain plug and easy fill. For services on the Sterliing I did install the Banks cover. Love the sight glass drain plugs fill plug and no more silicone!!! Of course you know as a Amsoil dealer what gear lube I use. And Gale Banks was so impressed with its performance he now ships the cover with Amsoil. Unless you wish to delete it on the order I think you have a couple pics I sent you AROD. I get a kick at fuel stops towing that cover it gets noticed. Looks good better yet performance cooling while towing is a benefit.

Thanks for the vid ARod. Completed front D60 and M275 rear service on my '17 F350 at 40k miles, early and preventative maintenance. Used Valvoline Synthetic 75W140 rear and dino 80W90 on front. Scored using a lubelocker gasket for the D60 vice gooey stuff. Lesson learned on M275 cover, used stiff painter's blade to break sealant and 12pt socket + breaker bar for bolts. Some still had uncured sealant at tips. Looking forward to pinion seal vid - had to do this on my '06 F350 a few years ago. Unsure if I am bought into Bank's diff cover, based on how many trucks are on the road with OEM covers and price point. Banks cover versus HSM upper/lower fuel filter solutions.

However your boss man is going to have to explain to our honest hard paying customer that it would be in his best interest to drop the truck off & pick it up later in the day, no if ands or butts. I have looked at the front and rear diff change videos and wonder if using vacuum to remove the fluid from both is not a better solution, especially for the front? I have a twin shock steering stabilizer on the front and would love to have confidence that a vac suck and refill would work properly. 2019 F250 6.7. I want to consider Amsoil, too, so your thoughts would be most appreciated.

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thank you. I have a sloping driveway and at work I can't make a mess. I think I could sneak a sucker in and get the job done in the work parking lot but there would be no time for curing of RTV. I have to change the power steering fluid on this one too. Do you think that the suck, turn lock to lock, replace, then repeat until clear is a viable solution for Alumiduties as well. Thank you for awesome help and support for the powerstroke clan.

Brother, please take the fill plug out first before draining. It’s a bad day if you drain, then put all back together just to find out the drain plug is seized or rounded out. Been there once. Never again.

2014 F250 SRW with the Sterling 10.5 ELD. Took mine into local dealership for a transfer case seal leak. I’m going to have them service the rear diff too. They said when they service these they just suck the fluid out of the fill hole, then refill. Is that ok? Or should they be fully removing the diff cover every time? Thx

Howdy Arod. Great vids. I have the 2017 6.7 PS F-250 with the 3J axle code. Gear ratio is 3.55:1. Currently has the stock LT265/70R17 E121/118R tires on it. I want to upgrade my tires to something bigger. (I already have the BDS leveling kit on it.) 35s are what I'm thinking, but after doing some math, am thinking that 35s would be too big for my 3.55:1 gear ratio in my axle. Should I just get 33s or do you think the 3.55 can handle a bigger tire like a 35?
