My personal inflation is the transfer of dollars to Philippine pesos, banking transaction costs, and local inflation (which includes supply restrictions) of which much comes from imported goods I buy, and of course that VAT I must pay or the customs fees I am charged on imported goods that is included in the price.

US dollar is up 4% against a basket of of countries and going back further it is up 5.9%. That in big part is because interest rates remain high in the US. But those rates are coming down at some point and when they do so will the exchange rate. And they will continue going down as will the exchange rate. Right now, is one of best rates ever, don't expect to always get this great rate. I've seen bloggers who think the rate has never been below 50 since they have never seen it that low. I think it was just after the housing crisis when the Fed lowered rates to next to nothing the rate went to 42. Many expats packed up and went home. That is a big jump, compare that to 57 today and see what you get each month. I could make it with a 42 rate but I'd have to change the way I lived in Philippines if I lived there. I wouldn't have a problem changing but I'd much rather be around 50 and if 55 or better I love getting that better rate but I would live the same way. I wouldn't spend more just because the rate is high, I would enjoy paying less to live.

I did a Google Sheet that has a ROUGH comparison of US & Philippine Inflation & how the Exchange Rate affects it... Starting in 2013. If I haven't blown the math. There is an almost 22% advantage in the last decade to be in the Philippines vs the US based on my "Blend" of Pensions. No idea what the Future holds, but it's good enough to try the Philippines starting October 2024.

I appreciate these videos on finances. It's unfortunate that our schools no longer teach kids basic finances. We have a couple generations of financially ignorant young adults as a result, and that's very sad. It's been mentioned by others that while this looks very promising, inflation is higher than the gains we have seen, or the cost of living adjustments to our pensions. That said, the sentiment that every peso counts rings even truer. Are we so bad off we need to panic, no, but it's always wise to live below your means. We try to bank at least 20% of our money each month, half for travel, half to leave behind for the kids. I try to stay below $2500 monthly, and usually can stay under $2000 with minimal effort. Keep up the good work, if I find time to visit Angeles I'll buy your breakfast.

Great content there Mike. Thanks. The GBP for me has gone up from its usual rate at 65/66 pesos per pound to now at 72.58 to the pound. I have certainly taken advantage of this.

Say you spend 5k every three months, $142 diff is $46 dollars a month. You could pay for a gym membership with that extra money. The USD is flying high, for now. Financial Analysts expect the USD to go down when the Fed Reserve starts cuting interest rates. Now is Probably a good time to convert significant amt of USD to PHP.

Some of that gain due to higher value of the dollar is offset by inflation of products or services one consumes in the area where they live. Social security does have an annual cost of living increase indexed to inflation rate but those on fixed incomes are hurting.

This assumes that the prices are the same from the past years and today. I do not think this is true. Even in the Philippines there is inflation. Basically what is the buying power in the past to today? Thank you for the detailed information.

BRIX over time will draw down the usa $$ it's been in enfacto the world reserve currency. But forcthe Philippines peso the dollar should remain strong. Unless, America has a major default. Witch is highly unlikely due to the history of the high demand for the dollar

Try to communicate with the bank so the transaction occurs when the international transfer takes place. They will sit on the money and hold you at a disadvantage. I do not know that all banks do that, but I think they do. I lost 48k because the bank gave me a receipt five days after they got 2.1 million pesos. Try to talk to a bank executive before you do the transfer so that they get the money when the US bank says they gave it to them. Most banking employees will not know what I am talking about. Another thing, the transaction took place in Manila instead of in Cebu, that surprised me that the transaction took place at another bank in another city.

So from my understanding, the Federal reserve is not going to cut interest rates until inflation starts to go down, and there's evidence that they might have to raise it more at the end of the day before this is all said and done. Also, keep in mind that BRICS thing isn't as scary as it sounds. First off the main thing to keep in mind about BRICS, is while these countries want to come together on certain things, they also have competing interests themselves. A couple months back Russia was getting so many rupees that they told India to go shove it. They want an alternative currency, but they don't want it. Do you see my point? Right now the dollar is number one and is likely to remain that way for many years. If you look further into the future, both Russia and China are going to be soon dealing with major demographic problems that are going to greatly influence the way their economy is running. There's all kinds of strength in the dollar, now. If you were to ask me what's going to go up and down tomorrow. I wouldn't even bother trying to guess. Even if you could figure out the direction of the dollar you still got to also figure out the direction of the peso . Your logic is sound about one thing, if the peso is worth a lot versus the dollar today, sure, it might not be a bad time to cash out. But if you're really trying to predict the market ahead of time, I can tell you That is like a monkey trying to hit a bullseye after being blindfolded And spun around in a chair 15 times. Warren Buffett said you can't time the market, And I feel that's the most sound advice I ever got about the stock market. But I think it also applies to all kinds of markets...

I am thinking about buying a Ford ranger, sport, 4 x 4, in the Philippines 1.65 million pesos. At 50 pesos to the dollar, it would cost me $33,000 dollars at an exchange rate of 57.54 it would cost me $28,625 today. That is why the exchange rate matters. A $4,375 difference

your math is solid but your free electric bill isn't free if the price of ground beef goes from 199 pesos per kilo before the pandemic to 368 this week in my sm supermarket. check the cost of building materials and staples , you will find that free electric bill really isn't as free as you may think.I have never seen prices rise especially for food as fast as post pandemic, literally every few weeks they are changing and not going down.

I.E the pound, the Australian, dollar, New Zealand, and the Euro. I get 15,000 USD every month from the U.S. plus SSS plus Japanese SSS, retirement from a Japanese University, and still working part-time at 2 Japanese universities. Bank more than a million USD every 3 years. "that being said," when walking down a street in A/C, I will always stop and pick up 1 centavo on the street. Always tip nicely but a real Cheap Charlie buy my clothes at a Uki Uki store and looks nicer than 99% of the foreigners in A/C
