Rails in the Garden are a group based in NSW, Australia that meet regularly to run our live steam and battery-electric trains at events held in member's gardens and at regular indoor exhibition events.
We produce our own quarterly Australian magazine devoted to the garden railway hobby and subscription enquires are welcomed by e-mail: magazine@ritg.org.au.
Our annual premier event is SHSU and we are already looking forward to the next edition on 17-19 May 2024; details of pre-registration are available at shsteamup.com or by e-mail: registrar@shsteamup.com.

That’s the first time I’ve seen prewar Lionel standard gauge tinplate wagons regauged for use on a steam railway

Hi, we use 32 mm and 45 mm gauges for live steam (this line has both) and I think the wagons you are referring to are indeed running on the 45 mm gauge (ie: G-scale aka Gauge 1). They're not my wagons (they belong to a visitor) so not sure of their provenance, but I gather all pre-war Lionel was O-scale 32 mm gauge (or OO), so well spotted!

@@SteamInYourGarden well not quite, the prewar wagons in question were Lionel “ standard” gauge which was two and one eighth inch three rail AC tinplate, I know as I have a lot of it, the 0 gauge Lionel started prewar as well as some 00, those converted ones are Lionel Std gauge which approximate in size to G scale, the ones in the opening sequence are a 216, 516 and a 212, produced between 1926 and 1940, the 216 is quite a rare car, it was interesting to see them being regauged and put to a new use, thanks for your reply
