This is part one of a two part series featuring electrical upgrades I made to our Forest River E-Pro 20BHS. It came equipped with a single GoPower 190 watt panel which did a decent job by itself allowing me to run the fridge and a few lights but I realized that for true boondock camping with 3 kids, I would need much more power to charge the batteries. I decided to give it an upgrade by adding 2 Rich Solar 170 watt panels ...for a combined total of 530 watts!!!
Make sure and watch all the way to the end to see how many amps the panels produce...I was shocked!!!!
In this video I go through the process and equipment that I used to install the solar panels on my travel trailer. This a great solar panel upgrade for E-Pro, Geo Pro or similar sized travel trailers to allow you to boondock or camp at campgrounds with no power hookups. With this simple system, I am able to power my 12v fridge and exhaust fan 24/7 without needed to be plugged in! Combined with lithium batteries (in part 2 of this video series), lack of power is no longer an issue.
As always, do your research prior to buying panels or attempting a DIY project like this. It is very important to match your solar panel output with your solar controller as well as proper wire thickness, connections and securing the panels to the roof. In short, a lot can go wrong so do your research and be prepared.
