Hi Forest. I have been looking through your older build videos when you were making your ground cables and all you had was hand pliers to make you connection back when you upgraded your alternator. I remember back then saying to myself...those grounds can come back to haunt you in weird and wonderful ways. Have you had a look at them lately. Grounds can really screw with you.

The one code is basically telling the traction/StabiliTrak. The ECM is having an issue and needs to disable traction control. The 5-volt reference code. This is where they would need to start first. It's going into limp mode due to the 5-volt reference going down. If I had to guess, the issue is probably going to be a wiring issue. I would check the engine main harness for any kind of rub marks. Especially above the bell housing. It could be a sensor issue or the ECM. But I highly doubt it's an ECM issue. Usually, when it's internment like that, it's usually a connection issue or a wiring issue. It's a short to ground. Because if it was open, it wouldn't set that code. It would set codes for the multiple modules on that circuit. If you wanted to try and find it. What I would do if I would back out the 5-volt reference 3, I would pull the circuits out of the ECM. Then reproduce the issue. Once I narrow it down to that circuit, then I would disconnect everything on that circuit. Like the one guy said, more than likely, the dealer will shotgun parts at it. Due to it being intermittent. Intermittent issues, especially a 5-volt reference issue. Any short on any branch will take out the 5-volt reference. Because you really need to duplicate the concern over and over again to find it. One thing as a customer that can help them. You might want to go on a test drive with their shop foreman or the tech working on it. Then show them the hill can be beneficial for them to fix it.

I got so excited when I saw you pulling out the sewing machine. The footage of your treks all over the mountain side is spectacular and gets me out of my own head for a wee bit of time for sure! But nothing makes me giggle like seeing you sitting on the sewing machine case lid. :D That, my friend, is ingenious. Sadly it wasn't meant to be for today's video. Although, the sewing machine on the picnic table in the middle of nowhere did make me smile. :) I hope they can diagnose the repair accurately and get both you and your beast of a van back on the road quick and the repairs cost won't be too dear. Stay sane, stay healthy, stay lovely!!! Thanks for taking us all along on your adventures!!!!

I’m sure it’s moisture in a connector, though I recently fought a similar issue on a 2017 Silverado - I ended up finding one solitary wire with the insulation skinned off about 4” from the abs module and it was randomly grounding out on the edge of the nearby transfer case skid plate bracket.

Beans with Mexican flavors is the key. They are delicious with corn and tomatoes, jalapenos, cumin or chili powder They wouldn't work on Italian pizza flavors, IMO. BTW-- in a previous video, Foresty put green pepper in his Mexican dish. Green pepper isn't usually included in Mexican dishes. I've seen southwestern, californian and North of mexico cooking without anyone using green peppers in a chili, burrito, enchilada or taco dish. Maybe in the southern Mexico or with Mexican fish recipes. Anyone know about this?

GM van fleet owner here. 2 things, ABS module connection is down below in a bad spot. Connector isn't the best and they get water in and corrode. If the ABS is producing bad signals that affects the Stabillitrak, which if it sends out bad data will affect the ECM/PCM. The other thing to ensure is that your chassis and cab structure are well grounded. This is pretty easy, ground cables are cheap, any auto parts or truck parts store has them. On our older vans we run one from the neg battery post to the engine block (alt bracket) the right side of the cab by the heater box and one down below from the engine block to the frame. It's a little overkill but it works. The ABS connector is serviceable but unless you have a lot of practice with Yazaki style connectors, it is money well spent at the dealer. Good luck!

FF: Sadly the dealership will probably just shotgun parts at it.. Without capturing live data, it's going to be a guessing game at what's wrong. If you had access to wiring diagrams, look to see what is common between all the circuits. Since your errors seem to be missing reference signals, this leads me to believe that it's more central than ABS sensors and vehicle speed sensors. Perhaps get in touch with the best in the business, Eric O. at South Main Auto!

I doubt it. The dealerships mechanics and techs specialize in working on that brand of vehicle. All you need to do is have common sense dealing with the service writers who are sales folks. Who will try to say you need that transmission flush or a break job because it’s recommended at such and such interval. People are so full of misinformation. It will be more expensive, if you are on a budget and don’t have the funds for a dealership a local mechanic will be better. However I’m willing to bet the local mechanic is way more vulnerable to the throw it at the wall and hope it sticks method. Sincerely a guy in the auto industry for 20 plus years.

Here's a gm one, water in connector!Accelerator pedal position sensor assembly Do NOT assume you have a bad accelerator pedal sensor. GM says the condition is caused by water leaking into the body harness connector that carries the APP signal to the PCM. The water changes the voltage readings from the APP. However, this code can also be generated by the installation of aftermarket equipment that is tapped into the wrong wire (radio, remote starter, radar detector, etc). Locate the body harness connector, located in and around the left hand kick panel area or inside the IP (consult a shop manual for location). Water can leak into the connector from clogged sunroof drains, A-pillar leaks, or windshield or cowling leaks. If you find water in the connector, locate the source of the leak. Then dry out the connector, apply dielectric grease and reseat the connector. Then clear the trouble codes and check for proper operation. This will cause your loss of power.

my issues was water in the ecu. changed the ecu with one from the scrap yard (easy swap but requires a code) its a common gm issues that garages cant diagose. Edit also I noticed that eBay sellers often sell the ECU with the code if you type in the search ECU and pin code.

Just throwing spit into the wind here » You have an older vehicle that probably doesn't have a sensor that detects when the vehicle is climbing. So why do you get error codes when it's climbing. The first thing that comes to mind is that something (water inside a sensor or computer?) is moving when you climb to set off the code. Might also explain the reason you are getting different codes.

I love this guy. What a cool way to live. And still gets little kid excited when a motorcycle goes by! Keep it up brother. You ever get down to Texas you have a hot shower, some cold beer, and a place to park anytime

Sorry to hear about your van problems. don't freak out too much. in an electrical system, one bad component or bad connection can make everything go haywire. Your bumpy roads could have knocked a connection loose somewhere. roll with it, bro. troubleshoot the problem and diagnose it. or just take it into the dealership and let them do it.

Or as we in the computer repair business liked to say, when they work computers are logical but when they break they are illogical. You will zero in on the fix I am certain. Last modification or change is a great place to start.

I've not read through all the comments, but I'll bet there's more than one reply talking about perhaps a ground issue. You've done a bunch of changes electrically in your van. Consider looking at ALL the electrical connections you've made in various places on your van.

If the dealership asks you to recreate the problem, recreate it but don’t plug your OBD in to read it or pull fuses. It can lead to miss diagnosis and potentially cost you more money

I used to sell cars for a living and whenever our mechanics came across the P0697, the easiest fix was always just replacing the whole computer. There's so many different computer issues that could be causing it to happen, it was just easier that way. Definitely not cheap though.

Might be cheaper to look into aftermarket engine control. Just make sure not to have Matt Happel install it, since the van will then probably leave the shop with 1000 horsepower, haha

Different codes but still the same problem? Sounds like a control module. Open circuit means you could have a loose connection. Meaning something could be plugged in but the contacts inside the plug are loosely held together.. Have you cleaned your battery posts? Corrosion between the post and cable could limit power supply to components. GM style battery connections are the worst IMHO.

@@ianronald10 Yep, the last GM I bought was a '99 Safari. The transmission blew at 38,000mi a mere 18 days after the warranty expired. That was it for me. I declared I would walk before I ever bought another car they make.
