Forging a Bowl from a Saw Blade: Recycyling Ideas as Blacksmithing Projects

In this video, I show forging a bowl from an old table saw blade. It's one of those unusual recycling ideas that makes for an interesting blacksmithing project to forge. For this type of DIY metal bowl, if you don't have a swage block, you could achieve the same effect with a wood stump with a dishing shape hollowed into it.

This is an old video, but I enjoy going back and watching your stuff again and again, Roy. Thanks for what you do, man

I really like that project, thanks Roy. The carbide teeth are just brazed on and they should come off with a torch and some pliers. It looks like some were falling off with the heats anyway. I think removing them wouldn't detract from the overall effect for those who may not want to risk the carbide marring their tools.

I have an old oxygen cyl with a hollow base I cut in half and stand upright as a dishing anvil! It works great, wall thickness is about 3/8 inch and its plenty strong enough.

I love your disclaimer! Yes it is appropriate! Will they listen? I doubt it! I follow a lot of your videos and enjoy them immensely. As I am currently 10 yrs off retirement, but as an electrician I have visited many industries over the years working for a supply authority. In my retirement , i want to try and sustain industries and skills like this! Most people can't even splice a rope! Women can't cook, I cook for them! (from spag/bol to seafood to omelettes to full roasts and gravy, cakes, cookies and biscuits) These are "old skills", unfortunately these days are getting lost!!! Keep up the good work, I'll just slink back and watch as the world passes most by. (smiles, all the best to the watchers here)

Hi Roy, do you ever weld a plug in the arbor hole? Do you think that could be done with a Oxy/gas welder? Thanks.

How do you get the really blue color after forging ?
@ChristCenteredIronworks
@ChristCenteredIronworks 7 жыл бұрын
If you want to get a blue color, you can clean the surface, heat it with a torch to the blue oxide stage, and rub with oil. Voila!
