Nice! Love the transition into the blade. Wonder if you can forge that with a swage maybe... tricky, but that part is solid at least.

Believe me, I was thinking the whole time, I need to build a depression/die to set that shape. A die would be faster and look cleaner.

I find this amusing: everyone loves a hand-forged item because of how it looks, and you two are talking about how a die would be cleaner & faster…if I wanted a die pressed or stamped trowel I can get one at the local hardware store 😆 surely there must be some middle ground! PS: it is an awesome trowel and I’m just having a bit of fun

just scored a Lee Valley hand trowel like new (List 48.50 +taxes) at a garage sale for 3 bucks--------think I'll pass over forging one now----nice work, though

Nice trowel. Clean work as usual. You have obviously machined a large variety of bottom tooling for your power hammer. Also I have always liked the kiss block system you designed. Very handy for repeatable sizing!

Yeah the basil is rocking out. My plan is to make a bunch of pesto with it. I don't think so on the beetles.

what's your power hammer tooling made of?, it seems so tough and robust

4140 for the dies, h13 for the hand tool.

amigo, cuanto cuesta un trabajo así? vos cobras por el trabajo terminado o por el tiempo que te llevo hacerlo? si tuviese que hacer a martillo todo, seria mas barato o mas caro?a mi de vez en cuando me piden herramientas parecidas, pero en general no le doy tanta terminación, por un lado por que no tengo esas maquinas, solo martillo y yunque y por otro lado por que en general si cobro caro no me dejan el trabajo, me da curiosidad, yo soy de Argentina, te agradecería mucho la respuesta

Question - how hard can you get that edge? Have you tried hard facing ?

I used mild to keep it simple, but I bet case hardening the edges would work. If you wanted to get fancy, you could use 4140.

Why wouldn’t you pick one up from the hardware store for less than five dollars ? This tool doesn’t need to be this strong as it’s only used for turning over topsoil !

£100,000 worth of tools to make a £6 trowel , i know everything in blacksmithing has been done before but this is a bit much lol ( i have to say though i love the workshop and the surroundings)
