If you do end up getting a new glass front clip a good idea to prevent future cracking on fiberglass body panels is to coat the back side of the panel with spray on bedliner. You can do this yourself with a roller or rustoleum just came out with a spray on bedliner in their new turbo cans that spray a pattern like a regular spray gun. Make ya do it away from stuff you dont want it on bcuz when that shit dries your not getting it off. Good for back side of rust repairs too, seals them up real tight.

I think the car is bad ass! However, there is too much surface rust on it, and if it was mine, I would be sanding it down and repainting it, at least to match the "patina" on the rest of the car. All that surface rust does not equal patina. You got a real Diamond In The Rough there.

Hi, nice car probably my favorite since I was a kid. I am building one right now and decided to with special made spindles, big block springs, a ball joint spacer and spring spacers. I am pretty sure I have 8" between the fender and the 28" Mickey Thompson's on the front. When I see your car I wish I had gone with a 1955 - 1959 truck axle which is perfect for this car. So many ideas and so little time. Good luck and enjoy you only go around once.
@StreetCarChronicles
@StreetCarChronicles Жыл бұрын
Hey Paul first of all thank you for watching. Secondly I have obtained what I think is the 55-59 straight axle but im not 100% sure how you tell. I really thought about hole sawing the control arms like they used to do and running either the 210 wagon springs or big block chevelle and ball joint spacers. Then bring the rear end down a couple inches. The tire that’s on it in these videos is a 32x10.5 and there is a ton of room. I like a slight rake and the overall height to be noticeable but not overkill so I can’t decide haha. I plan on getting started after Christmas, I took some time off to get some work done on it and my sons S10. More videos to come very soon. I appreciate the support and if you get time go to my Facebook page and comment with some pictures of your build!
@paulwilcox4056
@paulwilcox4056 Жыл бұрын
Hi, holes in the control arms are a cool idea that I have not done yet. As far as the axles I have both. The 49 - 54 is 49 3/4" from backing plate to inside of backing plate. The leaf springs are on an angle and offset because of the chassis frame. I believe the rear of the front springs is narrower than the front of the springs. The 55 - 59 springs are 55 1/4" plate to plate and that axle I took the guys word for it because he only had the axle. I have not played with these yet but was going to to order parts from Speedway and last time I looked Speedway had the 5 lug replacements but could not get them in Willwood unless you buy there tube axle. I have a hardtop 55 with that axle but it's not nearly as cool. Sorry I don't do Facebook so I will have to figure out some other way to send you pictures. I subscribed and will be looking to see progress and admire your energy. Life has gotten in the way again so I'm pushing to work on getting greasy again. I still druwel a little when I go out in the shop. Awesome car so have fun with it. Paul

Naw you're doing an awesome job. First things first gotta get rid of the dirt so you can see what you've got to work with and what all needs to be fixed. I like straight axle too. @StreetCarChronicles
@StreetCarChronicles Жыл бұрын
Hey George thank you for the kinds words💪 I’m glad you are enjoying what we are doing here. So from what I have researched over the years yes some used the model a style front end, but because they were so narrow some felt it was a bit unstable. So a lot of guys used 56-60 or 59 maybe Chevy truck front axles and some f100’s. They are much wider and provided better stability at speed. Some used small van axles as well. I have obtained a truck axle but I’m still weighing my options budget wise. My Malibu has taken a lot of time and money so I’m trying to recover 🤣. Either way there is a ton of work to be done and I plan on starting it next week while I have some time off. Stay tuned man, im not sure how this is gonna go but it’s going to go one way or another lol

First off thanks for subscribing. There are a couple more videos on the car. Sadly I just could not fit in this car. In order for me to drive it safely, the entire car would have to be changed drastically. I never wanted to alter the car much from the way it was when it was last raced. So I made the decision to trade it to a guy that’s 5’6 and had my first car a 67 chevelle. I’m currently working on my Squarebody GMC, and my sons S10 build. Once those are completed I’ll be getting back on the chevelle. Thanks for watching

Straight axle,,,,,,depends on what your going to use the car for….Straight axle if nostalgia racer is what your going for but for me NOT nose not pointing to the sky….Coil spring front end for the street or even drags will work fine so why chop the frame for a straight axle….I used to own a street ‘55 racer with the glass nose and stock front end and it would the wheels on the street….Scary fast….!
@StreetCarChronicles
@StreetCarChronicles Жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s where I struggle, on one hand I’ve just always wanted a straight axle car, I’ve started or planned to do it 2 times before in life and it didn’t pan out. So part of me says finally do it. But I would want a drop beam I don’t like them sky high. I want it to work, because I plan on racing this thing again. It will be driven on the street though as well. So I was considering doing 210 wagon springs with ball joint spacers and doing some hole sawing on the control arms like the used to to lighten them. Sometimes when I get stuck on I can’t make a decision I like people to chime in so I can understand the why you should or the why you shouldn’t
