Thanks to John for the request via Patreon. However, maybe this one should stay forgotten. It's a co-op beat em up, but not a particularly good one...
New SNES-related video every Tuesday, and something else (Genesis, Game Boy, whatever) on Thursdays

Not sure about anyone else, but I would love to see more SNK content from you. Love what they did back in the day and like everyone else, didn't have money for a Neo Geo AES or Neo Geo CD. At this point, that'd be one of those "I won the lottery" purchases for me, but I'm sure you could showcase their work "any way you can".

Same here. I think these complaints are a little overblown. It handles well (admittedly the animations are a little weird, but that's hardly unusual for an early-90s beat 'em up), the transformations are cool, and it's mostly insane. Definitely worth playing imo.

Bought this on the Wii’s VC and reviewed it back when I did that. The most notable thing I could say about it is how the Wii’s operation guide described the main character with the line “he looked like an Asian”. No idea if they ever fixed it, but my video has it immortalised as that’s soooooo bad.

Takara was specially good in converting Neo Geo games to other systems. SNES conversions had bigger sprites and better graphics while Mega Drive conversions had better speed and animations. They also made great conversion for Game Boy and Game Gear, in fact they made what were considered the best fighting games for those systems.

The thing about SNK ports to SNES is that SNK didn't handle them. After all, when your own console is made to be extremely easy to put out a home version of your game why would you worry about it? They didn't really port to NeoGeo as it was the same hardware as the arcade, and it was the most powerful home machine around. So why even outsource one? Because NeoGeos cost a lot of money meaning few could afford one, and a lot of people had an SNES. Potential profits are there. But hey, at least Fatal Fury Special is decent on the console.
@MusicInMe754
@MusicInMe754 4 жыл бұрын
I often feel like the SNK games ported to SNES ended up with better soundtracks than their arcade counterparts. My favorite example being Mr. Big's Theme from Art Of Fighting for SNES, even though the whole soundtrack was improved, in my humble opinion. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK9_iZB1vprKqqc.html

@@BoozeAholic oh and of course moves matter, otherwise the only differences are environmental and Character skins. If I'm only gonna be pressing one fuckin button the whole time it better have some cool moves. Favorites being Maximum Carnage, The Simpsons, Double Dragon GBA, TMNT Arcade. I don't think you have to say "Yeah it's a beat em up, but come on" about it only using 2 face buttons. Final Fight, Double Dragon Returns, and Maximum Carnage all use more than 2 face buttons. There are more than just those 3 games that use the SNES/Genesis controllers well! I didn't pause the video to read all of the text crawl here, but what I did read looked like the same thing as the arcade game's story. So the port replaced cool cutscenes with a text crawl, it looks like.

It's a lazy port imo. It could've been MUCH more accurate! Btw, Takara did an amazing job with porting Fatal Fury Special to the SNES, and it's even the best port of the game. A good example for how an arcade-to-home console port should be.
