Former Football Player Lewis Howes "I Felt Like I Was Dumb My Whole Life"

Former professional football player Lewis Howes, who hosts the wildly popular podcast The School of Greatness, seems to have it all. But in a candid session with Dr. Daniel Amen, Howes shares that he didn’t always feel like a success. In fact, the bestselling author and entrepreneur says, “I felt like I was dumb pretty much my whole life.”
‪@lewishowes‬ struggled in school, where he says he was always at the bottom of his class. He had a tutor and attended special needs classes during recess and after school, but no matter how hard he studied he still got Cs and Ds. When he entered eighth grade, he tested at a second-grade reading level, and administrators wanted to hold him back a grade. It was a real blow to his self-esteem.
“[Learning] was always stressful. It was always exhausting,” says Howes. Eventually, he thought, “What’s the point of trying?” As a result of constantly trailing behind his peers academically, he struggled with confidence, insecurity, and anxiety that lasted into his 20s.
With the help of psychotherapy, workshops, and other therapeutic experiences, Howes has managed to overcome it, but not everybody does. In fact, having any form of learning disability is linked to a greater risk of lasting mental health problems.

I'm doing a hyperbaric oxygen session tomorrow to start the healing process of my brain, to make up for all the damage I did when I was younger with drug and alcohol abuse. I'm so grateful I now know about the importance of my brain!

…. We have lived the same life. Youngest of 4. At a young age, had to visit family member in jail every weekend for years, I struggled in school as i also have dyslexia. I was a college athlete, List goes on. I feel for you and I thank you Lewis for speaking out about everything bc I am now 37 and i can empathize the with your struggles. But all seems to have been blessings in disguise

Dr. Amen also provide neurofeedback in his clinic....which is critical for self regulation. But he does not talk about in his videos....which is crazy

This bothers me and alot of other people im sure. This guy says i felt dumb my whole life? but you went on to school, had successful jobs. you did not have as bad a case as alot of others.... there are people who cant leave there house, there are people who cant even life.........pretty bold statement coming from someone who has had success well before his youtube career. this is ignorant
