Are you using Shared Matching or ICW at the DNA testing companies? Have you tried the new AutoClustering tool from Genetic Affairs? This short video walks you through the process of creating and interpreting shared matching clusters at Genetic Affairs!

I'd like to add a note about the gray cells. I have seen repeatedly, in my own AutoClusters, where only ONE cousin of the pair of cousins associated with a gray cell descends from the intersection of the two family groups. For example, for your Spicer/Mullin example, a gray box there could mean that only the cousin on the y-axis (or on the x-axis) descends from both families (is a Spicer/Mullen descendant) and the person on the x-axis will descend from only one of the families (Is a Spicer OR a Mullin descendant). This is possible even without intermarriage of the families in other ways because descendants of Spicer/Mullin may match those who descend from just Spicer OR Mullin. I just wanted to point this out so people do not form mistakenly associate a match to a family.

Thank you for posting & explaining the gray clusters, I really didn’t know what to do with them. Now I do. Thanks!

Be very cautious with them as they can have several reasons for being gray and at a particular intersection, but it's important to use any clue we can!

What a great video. I wonder how well this works with endogamy regions?

It appears to work well with endogamy, although you may need to play around with the thresholds to refine it. Good luck!

I tested it and found that it worked okay with 23andMe. With FTDNA, the default produced too many results so I raised the smallest cutoff to a higher number and got 144 matches which is viewable. Ancestry isn't working right now.

I've often hand charted matches to their matches, etc., forming a grid/matrix. It looks like this website is doing the same thing, only faster... is that a correct assumption?

Can this tool create a single cluster maps from multiple DNA profiles? For example, one giant analysis for myself and 3 cousins who all descend from a common ancestor.

Is there any plan to add MyHeritage? I have been looking at the trees of all my Ancestry matches and using the "shared matches" button. The real advantage of this to me would be how those Ancestry matches can be linked to the groups I have at FTDNA, MyHeritage, and soon 23&Me when my results come in. I look forward to suing this tool. Great idea! Thanks.

Actually as of 27 Feb 2019, (the start of the 2019 Rootstech conference) My Heritage now provides an Autoclustering tool - probably only available to paid subscribers!!!

@@SereniaSaissa The new autocluster tool from My Heritage is actually free to use *I have ran several cluster reports* I have never been a paying member of My Heritage. Granted, they may start charging at any time.

If you upload your my Heritage raw data to family tree DNA, you can then use genetic affairs by selecting the family tree DNA website and enter your login details.
