How to calculate the formula mass and molar mass of a compound. Terms like molecular mass and molecular weight are often used interchangeably with formula mass. The "molecular" term just means you're dealing with a molecular (or covalent) compound.

There are 2 because there is a N (which is what I assume you are talking about) before H4 and a N before O3, resulting in 2 N.

What's the difference between formula mass and molecular mass? I read that the formula mass (formula weight) of a molecule is the sum of the atomic weights of the atoms in its empirical formula. Is that correct?

They're essentially the same thing. "Formula mass" is used to describe Ionic compounds, since they don't exist as molecules.

Why are they numerically equal? I can't really wrap my head around how for example the formula mass of N can be 14u, and the molar mass 14g/mol. Is there any way to show how 1 mol weighs 14g while one atom weighs 14u?

You're saying "atomic mass," but it sounds like you're talking about atomic weight (i.e. relative atomic mass.) E.g., the atomic weight (relative atomic mass) of Carbon is ~ 12.01 u, whilst the atomic mass of Carbon-12 is 12 u.
