It's very unprofessional to give a good score to an Awful movie just because is laughable. I can understand that many people don't enjoy the emotional nature of Forrest Gump...but Sharknado is An atrocity.

+Mr Out Of Bounds Fuck RT and their pretentious ass scores. Every movie that's pre 70s is automatically above 95% and a movie like knocked up gets 90%. That's not all. Sharknado 2 is nearly fresh. Those 2 movies should'nt cross single digits. Just because they were made to be so good it's bad doesn't mean they should get high scores. IMDb is way better, imo. Sure, it suffers fanboyism issues but their rating are pretty solid. No shit movie like sharknado gets mercy ther which is nice and this movie has 8.7 which it deserves cuz it's a fucking brilliant movie.

Star Wars episode 2 got a significantly better score than Batman V Superman. I get that not everyone liked that movie, but it was better than the "love story" that is episode 2. I discredit rotten tomatoes and all it stands for.

Rotten Tomatoes doesn't give the scores. They just average out the positive and negative reviews from a variety of independent critics like Chris Stuckmann.

The one scene that always gets to me, is when Forrest begins to ask Jenny if Junior is "like him," and he can't even finish the question without crying. Then the joy he feels when he hears that he's the smartest in his class. As someone with special needs, that breaks my damn heart.

Yeah, and it was sad that that was the very first question Forrest asked about his son. It tells you just how insecure he was despite the social recognition and wealth he gained. Throughout most of the film, he is never happy because of his low self-esteem (and his yearning for Jenny).

I think the real story behind Forrest Gump was Jenny's. Shows how sexual abuse can stick with a person for the rest of their lives.
@Moviefan2k4
@Moviefan2k4 8 жыл бұрын
Victims of such abuse usually end up on either extreme: fear or addiction. Jenny clearly wound up with the latter, but I still think it was done overboard in a lot of places.
@homelesshannah50

How is it overboard? Most victims especially women use abuse as a defense mechanism because they assume that everywhere they go they will find the same bullshit that they did when they were little

@paesitopaez4302 3 жыл бұрын
I think that was certainly relevant, but the political aspect was kinda stronger imo. Follow the status quo, no questions asked and you'll be rewarded. Rebell and you'll be punished. Jenny was a victim of trauma and had a stronger interest in the harsh realities of the world around her. Forrest had a tough life, but because he did not really see that part of humanity, he was just going with the flow, which is what ultimately sealed his way to success.

+XJawa LordX The look of terror on Hank's face as he asks Jenny if his son is like him, mentally, and the relief when she tells him how smart the boy is is probably one of the best performances from Hanks in a single scene. This one scene, so well acted, puts us in Forest's mind for a moment as we see he knows that he's mentally deficient, and horrified at the thought that he might have passed on it on to his son.. It also adds potency to the movie as a whole on re-watching it. The self awareness of the Forest character, being fully aware that he's in fact not 'normal' mentally but still making his way through life as best he can with the best attitude he can.

This was the first movie I ever cried with. The death of Bubba was way too much for me. I didn't care about any of the other deaths in this film, but when his brother died after he failed saving him (he saves EVERYONE BUT HIM) was too much for my 6 year old self.
@Dreadpirate46

That's a sad moment for me too. Another moment I get misty is when, after braving the huge storm and being the lone surviving shrimp ship, Lt. Dan and Forrest are out on the calm ocean after multiple profitable hauls and Dan says to Forrest "You know, I never did thank you for saving my life." and then dives into the water and swims. It was so moving to see a man who was once so filled with hate and piss and vinegar over not dying suddenly at peace with life and living.

This is my favourite movie of all time. Ultimately it’s about how you overcome the shortcomings of the hand life dealt you. Jenny with her traumatic childhood, Forest with his disunity, Lieutenant Dan with being physically disabled. All whilst referencing time and historical events perfectly. The symbolism of Dan finding inner peace and marrying a Vietnamese woman, the feather, Jenny being a bird etc 😭
@m.s.4238
@m.s.4238 7 жыл бұрын
You didn't mention the scene near the end when he meets his son and he asks Jenny "Is he smart?" Just for or a second we see how much it hurt him to go through life not as intelligent as everyone else, but the only time he's ever undone by it is that tiny moment when he thinks his son will go through the same thing. I wait the whole movie for that scene.

I just graduated film school earlier this year, watch countless movies every week but this is honestly the only film that has truly made an impact on my life. For years and years, I was under the impression that if I didn't study at Uni or try and pursue my career as soon as I left school, I would end up at a dead end job that I hate or have no 'adventures' in life. After seeing that Forrest, no matter what age or where he was in life, always had new adventures and new experiences, it made me feel far less stressed and pressured into growing up as quickly as possible and actually made me enjoy life more than I ever had. If a movie can do that, then it's something truly special.

The special effects of Lt Dan's legs are still insane and holds up against anything like that today. Jenny gets so much hate but she was a perfect vehicle through what is a destructive life with a good heart. Absolutely A+ the whole movie is perfect.

I saw this and Princess Bride in the theater (I couldn't have been more than 4 years old with Bride), but I didn't realize until years later that Robin Wright was in both films. I swear she looks totally different as Buttercup than she does in every other role after that.

I just saw this movie yesterday because it’s iconic and I adore Tom Hanks (he’s my favorite actor of all time) and I was blown away by how incredible this movie is. I bawled like a baby at several sequences in the movie, but it was also funny and had amazingly compelling characters with amazingly compelling relationships. Definitely adding this to my favorite classic movies of all time (along with It’s a Wonderful Life which will always be my number 1) because I will definitely watch this movie many times over. And you’re so right about Tom Hanks, he knew the perfect line to walk for this movie. A+ movie indeed! 10/10!

forrest gump, this is a terrific movie right there next to the shawshank redemption yes the story is very interesting but to the younger viewers standpoint this movie does very well and i have to agree with chris but had this film added more characters for hanks's character to interact with that could make people laugh, it would actually give it bonus credit this film deserves an A+ cause its very nice, but it does have some sad parts , but u will be okay though

I'm glad people like forest gump, but I really dont see what is so great about this movie. Yes its emotional, yes its heartwarming. But what does it do other than that? After watching forest gump I thought to myself "Aside from tom hank's preformance, and some good cgi, there really isnt anything that this movie does exceptionally well". And I stand by it. There are lots of sentimental movies that are smarter, more human, have better stories. It also annoys me when pople say"oh, it's about how you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Its a strong and beatiful message!" First off we have all heard that so, so many times. And second, It just seems to me that he was always at the right place at the right time, he didn't really conquer any set goal for most of the movie. The ending was sweet, I will give the movie that. I like the movie, but whats great about it other than it touched you? 7.3/10

Hey Chris, as always a great review, thank you, I am a huge fan. Please don't see me as an attention seeker, I'm not but if I'm seen that way, please forgive me. What you said about someone not having to be the brightest to do great stuff and make a difference, that touched me a bit, because I am autistic and struggled into acceptance and am ashamed of who and what I am. Because of this I am heavily depressed and anxious every single day, and have been like this for all my life and I am 18 years old. But your videos, as well as JeremyJahns, and The Flick Pick bring me a much needed spirit boost so thank you for that. Is it wrong that that I find Forrest Gump inspiring? As always thank you for the videos as always, keep going man!

Great review bud, love this movie, haven't seen it since it was out though- I'm in desperate need of a rewatch! With regards to A+ films this year, The Grand Budapest Hotel is without question my film of the year, it was superb! I think at this stage of 2014 Interstellar is the only thing that could knock it off! Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Guest and A Long Way Down were also A+ films in my view (the only ones this year). Please please check out A Long Way Down if you haven't already, definitely the biggest surprise of 2014 for me- it got horrible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes but that movie completely blew me away it was so good!
