Oh man, I wish I could find stuff like this. In my area all I've found are fossilized coral and shells. I used to wanna do this for a living as a kid! It's so satisfying to watch

I've made elk shed horn belt buckles since 1971 and seeing all the grinding and knowledge of anatomy at work on that rock is most interesting to me in the Jurassic area I live in.

great work! Very fascinating to watch the crab slowly emerge! I wish we could find those here but alas here you only find the odd bit of tooth or bone. Which is fun to do but finding a completely intact fossil encased in stone that you can then prepare yourself seems like a much more rewarding thing to do! Perhaps a fossil hunting holiday will have to be planned. ^^

What a wonderfully compliant crab - wheres all the calcification??? Love the timelapse, I learnt to keep the rubble pile a bit cleaner, makes it easier to find the bits that decide they want to take off in a random direction.

It would be interesting to see the before preparation weight and after prep weight of the fossils. Great videos.

Just fascinating to watch, it's difficult to imagine the eons that little guy has sat in his stony jacket, snug and not knowing the surf was waiting to throw him around, break his hidey-hole and destroy him. Then he is rescued by Mamlambo, and safely revealed to the world! LOL, sorry just had to wax loquacious! Seriously though, when you are finished, is there something you use to stabilize the entire display, or put some kind of finish on it? Beautiful little crab.

I wonder, given the intricacy of the detailing, who took their first breath first or had it been to exhale in relief instead. My bet would be with the crab, it had after all been waiting an inordinately long time to do either.

They take forever to prepare. I have one sitting on my desk that I've already invested 10 hours in and have exposed most of the top carapace and one leg on the side. Unfortunately with all the work I have going on I haven't had a lot of time to do any side prep work but hopefully I'll get some more free time soon because I really do miss prep work. Keep it up. That's looking great. I look at all my crabs often and can see spots where I can do more micro work. There's always something else you can do to make a fossil look even nice but sometimes that might mean compromising the integrity (structure) of the fossil so a lot of times I just tell myself, "Alright that's good enough."
