Makes me smile to see you get so excited over someone else's WWII papers. So many families discard all those papers. My siblings would have done that. I am the one who has become the curator of my father's old papers, records, etc. I still have trunks & boxes I am going through. Oh the stuff I am finding! Oh and the picture of the man with trumpet is Louis Armstrong.

I so like the military information that was in the trunk. My grandad went to WW2 as a pilot, at first I thought the photo on the news paper was him. But obviously not since I live in NZ not the USA. But the guy looked so like my grandad. I so love old military things. Also some great jewellery finds, hope there was more gold/silver found. You certainly got your $90 back & more. Surprised you didn’t find a k’nife in the unit.

I pray you find the family to give the gentleman's papers to, my eldest brother has my Dads papers and medals and the White Ensign flag from his funeral and he treasures them. I don't understand how some people don't treasure them to pass down through their family. I love how excited you get Jeremy and I may be almost 67 but I'm not old mentally and I thank you Good Lord for giving me a young mind. If your heart, mind and soul are young you won't be old lol. The Trumpeter on the postcard in the trunk is Louis Armstrong! What a find. He was probably WWII to the Korean Conflict. Korea Conflict was never a war.

I am sure you know by now. But in case you don't. The Curt Flood card you found is important. I don't know it's value monetarily. Curt Flood was the first Major League player to sign as a free agent. And I think he was the first Million dollar player in MLB.

Look through the couches, people lose money out of their pockets. In 1963 I found all kinds on silver coins in the couch when I had to clean up after someone died. In the chairs when I worked at a hospital I found all kinds of money. My sister in law,when she died she left $500 in the spaghetti box.

The family of the guy who owned this trunk probably would be thrilled to receive the 201 file of this man and the pictures. You could send it anonymously if you could find out the address. Or just turn it over to some archive that records such things and finds the family.

I would give even the baseball cards to the man's family. That's what I used to do when Daddy & I had our estate sale auctions. A granddaughter got teary-eyed when I handed her a vintage train case full of very personal things (some valuable & some that anyone else would have tossed into the trashcan). She returned the morning of the auction to hug me because... in that train case was a tiny blue, tattered satin ribbon that her grandmother often wore around her finger to remember things. Jeremy nabbed a gorgeous classic trunk & a stash of gold. All the moolah he'd make on the baseball cards (or anything inside the trunk) pales in comparison to the value of the man's close encounters with such great figures & the 'moments' his descendants would treasure. And I'm thinkin' that Jeremy would agree (cuz that's how Jeremy beez😉). Thanks for sharing the personal side of this man's life. In this case, I think his family would love to have a keepsake copy of this video on a stick, CD, whatevs.💜

The reason he had all those records for the squad is because he was a First Sergeant. That star in those stripes denotes that he is a First Sergeant not just a sergeant. He was the head of the bases right hand man.

That’s a weird unit. Looks like a manager’s unit where they missed the jewelry. All the newspaper was unwrapped. Maybe they missed the train tickets but thinking that the military paperwork would be returned anyways. Almost like a few things “planted” so the buyer wouldn’t get suspicious??? 🤔

First: Your hair looks great. Second: That’s a vintage nursing cap. The stripe indicates Registered Nurse, although now I think they’re just used for costumes. Third: and most important! Finally, jewels that the mgr (if you are right about the special) missed! I want you to carry a jeweler’s loupe with a light AT ALL TIMES so you can tell us what everything is. Regardless, I sure you’ve far exceeded your purchase price. You may have a fortune in ephemera. Way to go!!!

Somebody had been through that stuff before you got there. Too much loose newspaper with nothing inside and everything that had been wrapped was already half opened. Somebody had already looked. There's way too much random stuff packed together. Bags had been opened. The box where the jewelry was found....all the towels on top....they missed the jewels. The military papers were of no interest...they tossed them in the trunk maybe from another unit?. Do think this unit was a managers special...very suspicious.

That hat was an old style Nurse hat that Nurses wore in the early 60's and before that. Most Nurses at that time were of a cold blooded nature. No people skills, just pure medicine and strict behavior.

That dictionary was great - do you save the old books and then section them for ephemera or paper collections? You can sell packs of 20-25 pages for $5, 10, 15 depending on coolness of content. Esp. dictionaries, old encyclopedias and any type of foreign language books from 1950 and earlier.

Several comments here on the nurse's hat. Traditionally, each school had its own style. Probably more work than is justified, but if you known an old nurse she may give you some insight, e.g. a local nursing school would generate more interest than a distant school.
