The Foundations Series is designed to help beginning students learn basic glassworking techniques.
William Gudenrath, the resident adviser at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass, offers a step-by-step approach to begin glassblowing at the furnace. Gudenrath starts with simple exercises and then teaches students the basics of creating a tumbler, and a tall and a low vessel.
Gudenrath is a glassblower, scholar, lecturer, and teacher. An authority on historical hot glassworking techniques from ancient Egypt through the Renaissance, he has presented many lectures and demonstrations.

It's so deceiving watching you. You make it appear so simple because of the eloquent and fluid motion you completely command over the art form. Phenomenal overview. A quality presentation you can watch 20 times and continue learning more.

As was I! He specifically stated that these videos explain the full process, unlike other videos that do not.

William. You make it look so easy. It takes decades to get as good as you.

great style, I have Autism, and this is slow and detailed enough for me, great work. keep it up cmog, and maybe put other 'basic' glass skill videos on youtube channel will help us all out, esp. as a refresher for any independent glass workers out there.

You would be surprised how complex pieces of work were made with a few simple tongs a file and shears, I worked with blowers in my teens and in their breaks would assist making ornaments and some amazing paper weights, they could knock out a few and get something to eat in the 30 mins they got, these were side earners for them and us, good memories.

good video, but as a beginners class, perhaps a studio tour with an explination of tools and the furnace, and how to set up prior to these practice sessions/projects, would not go astray.

would bill make a mezza stampo video? i would love to make them but i cant figure out how to get the additional bit to come out of the optic mold evenly even if its centered on the post when i go into the mold, as well as having problems blowing into the mass once the ribs are pinched, even in my setup bubble is well into the stamped bit
