Fernando Aguirre that's actually what I figured. L would never kill a suspect, unless it was self defence, even if he knew they were guilty. Also, L personally saw when he was chasing Light that Kira has become a god of sorts, and there would be riots if they tried charging Light. With Watari dead and him defeated, I feel like L would write his own name as a final act of defiance.

I'm fairly sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. L has to find out much more about the mechanics of the killings, and it would be foolish to kill his only source of information. Also, the sheet with the names of the FBI agents was in Mia's possession and has been written down by her. Therefore it wasn't Light's handwriting. L might conclude that Mia was the real head of KIRA. Also, the killings continued while Light was in a coma. Because of these facts L cannot be sure that Light is solely responsible for the killings. L will keep the page and continue to investigate the nature of the killings.

@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jgАй бұрын
I had to watch the movie again and forgot how good it was. I don't think L wrote Lights name on the page because it was Mia who had the agents killed, not Light. If L really was some hotshot super-detective, he would have known it was in Mia's handwriting, not Lights, and it was in her possession after all which is why L stopped. We then see Ryuk laughing because how close Light came to being killed himself at the hand of L, not to mention at what Light did to avoid death, and all he sacrificed to survive and to try to make it right. Mia was power hungry and was getting innocent people killed. L's friend and mentor would have still been alive had Mia not have taken the page but in doing so, still had the one name that Light was able to erase ultimately at the end, which was his own name. I thought this was a great movie and I loved the soundtrack, such an 80's feel to it. I really hope there is a part II someday.

@@zoxr2872 I agree. I'm pretty sure that L didn't write down Light's name - yet. Ryuk's comment is a hint into that direction.My theory: I think that L is conflicted for various reasons and also needs to learn more about how the killings really work. And the mass suicide of the FBI agents has been written down by Mia. L can easily check that this isn't Light's handwriting! He might even conclude that Mia was the head of KIRA. Also, since the killings continued while Light was in a coma, L can't even be sure that Light is really behind all killings. It would be foolish to kill Light before L can find out more. But he most certainly has the option now to kill Light. Since I didn't know the original source material of Death Note, I really liked this adaptation. I hope there will be a sequel which Deals with the cliff hanger.

@onijester564 жыл бұрын
There's a duality. First, note that as you yourself state "I love the anime, but really “Light turner” wtf soo disappointing". Even the smallest change, even changing the name so that a LIVE-ACTION NON-JAPANESE PERSON HAS A REAL-LIFE NON-JAPANESE NAME is enough to ruin the endeavor. It doesn't matter if they only call him his full name a couple times, that they dared change a single name is unforgivable. ----- What I found helped me appreciate the film is accepting beforehand that movies are not manga or serialized anime. There's no break between episodes where a week can pass unattended, or any sort of time-jump between adjacent chapters. The movie has to tell a relatively-consistent series of events without detracting strongly from the core narrative, it needs a faster pace than an anime or manga. This is why the "48-hour control" limit was put on in the movie. In the manga and anime and Japanese movies, a person can control someone for four weeks. Light is further able to spend a few chapters/episodes experimenting on how to get the most of the killings before L comes onto the scene. If movie-Light was able to control someone over even a week, he could have written Watari's name into the Death Note and gotten L's true name without any worries. It wouldn't have even been suspicious for Watari to go investigate, since he wouldn't have the time-crunch to get the name immediately...so he tells L that he has something to do, and gets Light the name.

Experience losing a loved one? Light already lost his mom and Mia. He already knows how that feels. That would be a little overkill and a really boring ending. Since she is the one with a deathnote page in her calculus book. L loops pretty surprised as well. Maybe light had an other plan how to get to L's real name and gave with a heart attack right before he could right it down.

In my opinon, L did not write Lights name on the page he found on the calculus book. He seems to be ready to write it down when he sees the pic of Light and Mia. Then he laughs and points the pen on the page, a second look on the picture of the two kira, he stops and looks slowly down as if mentaly saying; " If i kill Light, ill have revenge. But if i do kill him... Then ill just be bad as him." So to me, he didnt write the name, that would make it too obvious that he would for revenge.
@martinkolakowski28886 жыл бұрын
He's not even the same L. L in the anime's real name is L. Lawliet and the L in the Netflix real name is Leben Dorn. If you don't believe me look it up.
@BroItsBroski5 жыл бұрын
My theory is that the sequel will begin in the same scene. L hesitated on putting Lights name on the sheet. I theorize that he won't put Lights' name on the paper, but his dad's instead. The entire sequel will focus on Light finding out L's true identity and take revenge on L killing his father.
@martinkolakowski28885 жыл бұрын
Silly theory really seeing as how L knows that Light is Kira and now James also knows that Light is Kira. L has no reason to put James name on the page. The only thing he could do is try to prove that Light is Kira with the page but seeing as how it's Mia's room he broke into, Light could just say that it proves that Mia was Kira and Light could just kill his own dad or in this one, maybe his dad would hide the fact that Light is Kira? I don't know. Maybe in this one L will kill Light's dad. The Netflix death note is very inconsistent when it translates the characters from manga/anime over to the Netflix movie so L and Light aren't the same and Soichiro is definitely not the same either. It's no telling what they will do and what they will do to fix the travesty of the first movie.

The movie never really gave us the intelligence level of Light. All we got was he did other people's homework for money. That... doesn't really show anything.
@bookofficialchu62376 жыл бұрын
true, felt like they needed to wrap up the whole thing so it really just felt a little too convenient.
@corporatestatusbrah6 жыл бұрын
Ace it's a time restraints. I think the movie could have used another 20-30 minutes. I think you're just suppose to know he's smart. You get a very simplistic idea that he is in the beginning, but pushing that idea further makes no sense cause he "smart". Maybe have a scene where he does something similar, but just going off what we got felt ok, didn't really question it.
@bookofficialchu62376 жыл бұрын
definitely, theres a lot of montage in the first act that really doesn't do anything to build his character concretely. But you look at his final plan and you're like "ok it's all intricate and it has many complex elements playing together" so it "looks" smart. But I could poke wholes into it, like the writer was like "how is the book retrieved? mind control. How is he in a coma? mind control. How does he burn the page? he plans it to fall in the fire?" its all opinions of course, but that to me made it so the "victory" wasn't really earned for the character. Don't you think?

I mean, the Death Note special for the anime summarised the entire first arc into 2 hours, and the second arc in a second special. Summarising the entirety of Death Note in 2 hours seems very doable, or at least the majority of the important information of L and Light's clash, and it had already been done incredibly well. Also, was there a reason the location setting and story was changed so much from the original? Hell, even Light's name was changed from 'Yagami' to 'Turner'.

Bad Request because it's not an manga adaptation it's a completely different story just with some slight differences & some similarities...in the anime light didn't fuck Mia, light didn't get bullied, they didn't go to a dance, mia wasn't light's partner she was a Kira disciple, L wasn't black, light didn't love Mia etc

because its a american adaption and not Japanese if you expect some other country to adapt something and not change everything then you are stupid now i'm not saying the movie is good it isn't bad either i'm not defending it but i liked it personally but i doubt any one adapts anime and manga just to appeal to anime fans since they've already seen the anime whats the point of appealing to them, what would be the point of watching something you have already seen but in a different format or if you cast Japanese people the movie might as well be made in Japan for the Japanese.since its an american adaption its targeted for the american audience..mostly and i assume they would rather have characters be American and not read subtitles or listen to bad accents

When I watched it for 3 times, I think L didnt write Light's name 1, if he is based from the Anime, L never wanted to be like the criminals he catch and probably be reminded by Watari via Flash back 2, Light said calculus book, not a Death Note, and it was found at Mia's House, he could tell that Mia is the one doing the killing and specially when the page fell with Light's name, eh should figure out that Light is under the control of Mia 3, Upon Mia's death means Watari's Killer is also Dead

I feel like L was about to write down Light's name onto the page he found, but when he "stopped" crying, I thought that he realized that since Watari was dead and he was the most important person to L he killed himself rather than Light. And since Light saw Ryuk laughing from behind the curtain and said humans are so interesting, Light was able to see Ryuk still which meant he was still the owner of the Deathnote.

even if L was a crappy detective by fining that page in her house and the little bits and pieces light tried to tell him, he would already have figured out that light wasn't the one who killed that dude...

Ending explained: L sees the names on the page, sets it down on the table, puts 2 and 2 together and realizes how Light has been killing people by writing their name down on the page. He laughs elatedly after figuring this out, thinking that he had bested Light and won. Then he gets to work, displaying anger as he grabs the pen and prepares to write Light's name into the book and kill him. As L goes to write the name, he realizes that one of the names on the page is his own real name that he hadn't used since he was 6(?) years old prior to entering the vault and thus had almost forgotten it, hence the delay in recognizing his own name. Hence the horrified expression and quivering lip in the last shot, as L realizes he is going to die.

Because it's too easy to write Light's name down. That's not how L ever wanted to do things, he's a mastermind, and meeting light, who is also a mastermind, creates a huge wave of curiosity. I agree he wrote the dad's name down, because L's closest father figure was killed, and he wishes to inflict the same grief. @weebjeez5 жыл бұрын
@@nessyness5447 but that's the thing. According to the movie's established rules, if Mia didn't take the note, Light would have been able to burn the page, saving her once she proved that she loved him, and not the power of the book. But because she took it, a different page was burnt, the one which has Light's name on it. But since she took the book, it became impossible for Light to burn the page, sealing her fate. Something which Light clearly did wrong, as he wrote "when" instead of "if", making the "test" unwinnable, by forcing her to take the book, as part of the "control" rule.

@@nessyness5447 not feeling like reading it right now, but the point remains that, however "ansurd" the rule is, it is one of the stated rules of the movie, which is much different, as we all know, from the anime, which is only a little different than the manga. I think L writing Light's name in the book would be too simple for L, it'd make more sense if he writes Lights Father's name in the book, as revenge for Watari's(I think that's how it's spelled) death. Plus, it'd make more sense because Light reveals everything to his Father, making it easier for his character to die off by the hands of L, setting up a sequel where they duke it out mano-a-mano. Which i think is further reinforced by how unhinged L seems now. EDIT: Or he just doesn't write anything, because he'd be just like Light, which seems to make more sense if you look at how he's processing what he could do with it while holding the pen over it.
