I don't think I've ever missed anything as much as I miss the Clancy boys & dear Tommy Makem. It's so hard to listen to them these days without crying for missing them.

Well said mate I miss them too but I've seen that Liam's and Tommy's sons Donal Clancy and Rory Makem are jigging together...check it out on youtube, they're identical to their fathers...they will make you cry more than this!!!

I agree. They were the greatest part of my musical awareness and now they're gone.

Amazing to see the pain in his eyes: living every moment of the emotions of the old lady in the song.

+Xaivier M. Sinclaire I feel the same... Great version of a beautiful song.. And the "Four Green Fields" is a mighty metaphor for Éire's four provinces.. Munster, Leinster, Connaught, and the one that the British stole six counties of, Ulster.. Powerful lyrics.. Strikes a patriotic chord in all Irish people :) All the best, from proud son of Éire, David, from Longford, in the "field" of Leinster...

What do I have, said the fine old woman What do I have, this proud old woman did say I have four green fields, each one was a jewel But strangers came and tried to take them from me I have fine strong sons, who fought to save my jewels They fought and they died, and that was my grief said she Long time ago, said the fine old woman Long time ago, this proud old woman did say There was war and death, plundering and pillage My children starved, by mountain, valley and sea And their wailing cries, they shook the very heavens My four green fields ran red with their blood, said she What have I now, said the fine old woman What have I now, this proud old woman did say I have four green fields, one of them's in bondage In stranger's hands, that tried to take it from me But my sons had sons, as brave as were their fathers My fourth green field will bloom once again said she
