Stuffing a Kong with food to keep your dog busy and out of trouble isn't a new idea. But stuffing them with peanut butter? That's so old school. It just doesn't keep your dog focused on the Kong for very long and that defeats the purpose of giving him one. Here I share with you four super simple, healthy ways to stuff a Kong that your dog will not only love but will keep him busy for waaaay longer than 30 seconds and will have you stockpiling them for rainy (or snowy) days. I promise. Plus, I tell you how to get your dog addicted to eating out of a Kong so that he can't wait for the next one.

we use a bit of everything she said, including mashed banana, with a few treats as a bonus. And I usually smear the top with PB, esp if its frozen, and roll it in crushed kibble. I try to lure them onto their own blankets, cuz ya its messy.

I have a Jack Russell who is a power chewer and I use the extreme king toy and stuff it with regular kibbles then top it with two snacks that are larger in diameter than the opening. Result? She has to lick the snacks inside until they shrink in size so that they can fall out. How much does it take? Sometimes more than an hour 🙂 Take two toys and the dog is busy for quite a time.

Surprisingly my 35 lb Samoyed had a great time licking the small size Kong treats out of the medium size kong stuffer. The medium size is soo small (4inches) for a medium dog which is what was recommended for her weight but I suggest getting a large or bigger size for more time. (Took her 5 mins😫 and she’s sort of pooped hahah)

I have two 5 month old rottweiler puppies that don't want to bother to try to get the stuff out of the kong. Not frozen I tried to make it easy added yogurt. I tried just about everything I can think of. But they don't seemed to be interested . Any suggestions?

For our puppy we started with loose kibble just plain in the kong, so it fell out when he bounced it. That taught him how the thing worked. Then I started filling it with kibble and frozen peas and closed off with peanut butter (just the top), so he learned licking also worked. That way we slowly worked up to froze kongs fully willed with wet stuff. Hope that helps?

What I did with my pup is I bought a BIG kong and I cut a slit in the middle, and feed meals in it, then once he or she gets used to it then buy another BIG one and then they should use it better, if that doesn’t work spread peanut butter, yogurt,etc on the OUTSIDE of the Kong and put in in their crate/playpen

@@animalcracker_whore Well I'm sorry but my puppies are now over a year old. Their birthday was March 10.2020. They never did get the idea of what the kongs were for. So I just wasted the money I spent on them. I still have those big kongs but they just never did care anything about them at all. But they will do most anything for a cheese-it cracker.

Vet’s recommend a larger than snout size Kong, they need to be able to hold in back in their mouth but not have the possibility of choking on it❤ just go for the one they looks slightly “too” big

I don't find them to be messy, but it will depend on what you stuff them with. Frozen peanut butter is very crumbly but canned dog food generally is not.

Could you suggest a couple of yogurt brands? The plain yogurts and non fat that I see at the grocery have artificial sweeteners, so difficult to know what will not hurt the dogs! Thank you.

Purchase plain yogurt, not the flavoured kind. Plain does not have any sweetener in it. Barring that, I would look into buying yogurt made locally to you.

Is it just me or does the dog leave a lot of the food still in the long. It can really get stuck/ packed in there. Dry wet I’ve tried but maybe canned might work better.

I've never had an issue with food being left behind in them, regardless of if I use soaked kibble packed in there or dry kibble mixed with canned food. It will depend on the dogs motivation to get it out. You may want to also try mashing up some banana and putting it in there (if your dog likes banana) to add a little extra appeal.

They can't get all of the food out so doesn't the food left in there just turn all mushy?

My dogs work at it until they empty clean. Any little bits that are left get washed out when I clean the Kong.

I find that If you put something solid like kibble at the bottom, and mushy stuff on the top, then they can get it out :)

The title is misleading..... there are no 4 techniques in this video... just the same technique - fill the kong and freeze it. Just putting different stuff inside the kong the same way is not the same as showing 4 different techniques.

Lucinka58 totally disagree, That is what you do with Kong’s, fill them up freeze or no freeze. She gives a lotta different recipes.

yea, some techniques are: -dry food not frozen -dry food + moist food not frozen -dry food + frozen moist food on the edge (lick the moist frozen and then it's easy for the end) -mixture of dry and moist food frozen -have a jackpot of flavour at the end

Nice video and I love Kong’s but I can’t recommend feeding Kibble. As it is unhealthy for your pet. Endless information on this on the Internet.

its only to be stuffed in the kong for a treat. its better than that canned crap kong tries to sell with their products. if im only using it to stuff kongs with im not going to go buy 100 dollar food just for a treat. besides most vets will tell you as long as the AAFCO symbol is on the food then its fine. its no worse than us eating mcdonalds. And no, I wouldn't feed my kids or dogs "mcdonalds" everyday, but as a treat its not gonna kill your dog! gee zus.

@@slowpie Most vets know virtually nothing about nutrition. There's little focus on nutrition in vet schools, so this isn't surprising. Even though we've known for years how important nutrition is to humans. Pet food and treats are only self-regulated so an AAFCO mark is meaningless.

@@thedefinitionofcringe5501 Raw meat and bones, some organ meats, and cooked veggies with a few other things in it. Nothing that'd work stuffed in a Kong like this.

@@thedefinitionofcringe5501 Thanks for the thought, but the cooked veggies don't do much (i.e. anything 😃) in the way of rolling out. Best I've come up with is stuffing a Kong with cottage cheese, freezing it, and letting them lick it out, but lately they've become bored with that.

Maybe you can use the cottage cheese idea and at the top (cover the hole) and then put like a healthy fruit piece on top and smear some cheese on the fruit piece to hide it. Then dog will lick it off and find a “surprise” inside aka the fruit.

@ Sadie The Cavalier dogs are not cats, they have no problem drinking and topping up their fluids ... it is for cats that kibble can cause kidney stones and it is better to feed canned. Also... you can not plainly state that canned is better than kibble... depends on what canned and what kibble... some brands are rubbish and some are high quality.. so a high quality kibble from all natural ingredients grain free will be better than a cheap can filled with grains and low quality meat.

Healthy canned dog food is available. I use Solid Gold kibble and can. It's not disgusting and my boys love it. Petco has it.
