As a Cornishman who hails from not too far from Fowey, I feel the need to point out a couple of things. Firstly; the bird. That was a common Cornish shitehawk. They are born with a surfeit of evil and bad intent and count cats amongst their prey from the moment they hatch. Be very careful. If you don't keep it fully fed it will despatch you in your sleep and devour you whole. Keep a special eye on Hank; a morsel like him won't last long. Secondly; the England thing. Say it in whispers when you are out and about in Kernow as Cornwall was an ancient Celtic kingdom that predates England and was never officially incorporated into England, unlike Wales, which was for a century or two. It still has the right to raise its own parliament, by Royal decree, and under certain conditions would have the power of veto over Westminster. Love the video and sorry about the drone. :(

I understand the feeling, last summer, while sailing on the Puget Sound (NW Washington State). My DSLR, along with the 400mm lens attached to it, slipped from my hands as I was removing it from the waterproof case. It bounced once off the gel coat of the cockpit coaming and with an anticlimactic “plunk”, I watched $3000 disappear into the dark water, sinking to the sea floor, 80 fathoms below. It felt like a dream, I was so upset with myself, I nearly vomited…

In the 1960s, as a young officer cadet on a merchant ship, we came to Fowey to load China Clay. One evening a friend and I met a couple of girls who invited us back to their place across the harbour In the morning we had to get back to our ship very early and the ferry wasn’t running so we borrowed a dingy and rowed across the harbour and left it adjacent to the ferry dock. As we were disembarking my ‘friend’ thought it would be fun to jump from the gunwale which catapulted me into the ocean. Unfortunately I was wearing a brand new suede jacket which did not survive immersion in salt water. Fowey harbour has mixed memories for me but it is truly a beautiful place.

I feel like I’m a bit late to the party when it comes to realising how beautiful our own from yard is, but better late than never. As for recognising the events of the past, well, I always think about them. My Grandmother used to run an old folks home and when I was a little boy I used to sit with the older people who lived there and listen to them tell me about the war. I’ve always found it an incredibly fascinating time, a dark time, of course, but I always felt lucky that I had access to so many people who lived through it and fought in the great wars, when I was so young. I guess that experience as a kid forever left a mark on me.

Don't stop yet! Up tide from Falmouth is wonderful - almost all the way to Truro. But the real jewel is a little bit beyond - the Helford. Motor past the moorings and anchor just past them on the left side. The West coast is best. Daphne du Marrier country and REALLY stunning walks along the coast. My favourite West country destination. But the Scillies are lovely and feel more 'abroad'. I will give you hints if you go there. Also a great starting point for the South west of Ireland, which you really must explore, one day

@@CadohaAdventures I've not had enough test subjects to form a scientific study for this, but I have it on good authority. Its not like the good old days of 8bit home computers, where every component was slightly off the circuit board. Nowadays, with surface mount components, there are so many little gaps where water can be held by capillary action. It's lucky that the components themselves are pretty well sealed.

I think the seagull was probably quite happy where it was. We get several every year wandering around the streets of our village that are smaller than that. They do just fine and get big quite quickly (BTW, that one is far too young to fly - give it another month). The parents hang about on rooftops nearby checking up on them, and attacking anyone (and any cat) that goes near them (I think I probably hear them getting pissed off in the background of your video). They continue to feed them wherever they find them. They're actually a bit of noisy pain in the arse around here for a few months each summer. Oh, and if one of the kids doesn't survive, the parents just squeeze out another egg and hoof the chick out when it's less than half the size of the gull you found. Though every one I've seen around here has done just fine - the biggest risk is traffic as they hang about on the pavements, but somehow they dodge the cars. Unfortunately, I suspect you've just kidnapped someone's saucepan out of nursery school.

I do not recall an update on the efforts to stop the damp around the bedding. You bought a condensation layer for the bedding- What is your current feeling- how about an update. Then you spent a lot of time insulating the back of cupboards- Was it a success or failure? please let us know how it all went.
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Yes we have a condensation layer under the mattress but I'm not sure it's doing a great deal, I think the mattress would need to be lifted much higher and on slats for it to work. The insulation that we put on the walls has massively reduced condensation levels, but again it hasn't solved the issue. I think more air flow is what's needed around the entire boat to tackle dampness. I mean we shower every day, cook, breathe and exist, so I'm not sure it'll ever be completely tackled, but it's better that it was.
@grahamlongley8298
@grahamlongley8298 2 жыл бұрын
@@CadohaAdventures I did say in my comment section when you announced that you were using the condensation layer that it was no use. I was criticized by others who disagreed . I would like to see you video how you are getting on & it is an important part of your life aboard, so perhaps you can include your plans for dealing with it. Ikea slats seem the best solution, although I have not tried them. Others report some success & it is a cheap option. I have a self inflating mattress on my bunk, over the mattress , thus, lower mattress does not get damp. That probably will not work for your double bed situation due to the shape. Perhaps a 50mm memory foam layer on top may help. You do need to insulate the supporting wood bunk under the bed to stop the cold bridge

If you can affix a handle to a drone, can't you glue enough styrofoam bits (or pool-noodle encapsulated foam) to the underside of it, also, to make it float? I've seen some advertised that are waterproof. I just watched Mads say he had to email you to get some advice on how to fly a drone. What are you going to tell him now? ;) With all of England's rain, all it takes is a little sunshine to make that greenery visible! But it is a beautiful place to calm the soul and warm the heart and walk the Hank! Your choice of music for the walk in the forest was uniquely enjoyable! Good choice! Sorry you lost that drone, but you never told us how it came to be lost. All the rest of your hand-held videography was gorgeous! I would never have thought to only show feet going by, but it works magically! If you had just gotten a long snorkle, you could have followed the current all the way to the sea and found that drone. I'm missing those overhead shots already. If you've ever watched Eric Aanderaa's NBJS, (Norwegian single-hander that waits for a gale before setting out into the Norwegian Sea!) you'll know that he has some of the world's most beautiful overhead views of very harsh terrain, but he has lost SEVERAL drones at sea! Was this a return to Fowey? I thought I remembered that name from last year's season.

Romans 1: 20 says: "For his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the worlds creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable." I lost my drone round Rame Head which really sucked. It was the first and last time we flew it behind the boat but we were moving just too fast and the wind was too strong. That was a very traumatic day :(

@@CadohaAdventures I've seen people use the clear plastic bags, used for veggies at the grocery store, over the feet to help them slide through. I've seen talc ( not good) and also baby shampoo used to reduce the friction...the catch is that a totally dry wet suit is very hard to put on at the best of times

Isn't that the second drone gone? Isn't that the second rescued bird? Mmm. Seems every time you loose a drone it's replaced with a real live bird. Maybe you could train it, then zippy tie your go pro to it and problems solved. Or you could get one of those floating drones that can actually work under water... Seagull probably cheaper.👍

No, this is our first drone, hopefully the last one we lose, but I imagine that’s optimistic on my part. Going to look into putting some kind of floatation device on the next one 😌

2nd October 2018 - "Sailing the world - The Beginning : Ep 1". 3 years later and "The World" has got as far as poorly seagulls in the eastern end of Cornwall (and as for the sailing...........). But least there is "icy cold water" (18C) to contend with! Loving the Enid Blyton-esque incidental music though, but where are the "lashings of ginger beard"?

Ha ha, fair. I mean I snapped my leg when we got back from Scotland, then we had a pandemic and Brexit, then when we stayed in England as a result of the last two, we also discovered we lived in an amazingly stunning country and decided to slow down and enjoy what we had here before heading further afield. Besides, there didn’t seem to be many channels celebrating the best of British sailing destinations, as opposed to the 100+ videos of people feeding pigs on a beach in the Caribbean. We’ll get there but not before squeezing all the juice there is to squeeze out of old Blighty first 😁😁⛵️⛵️⛵️

@@CadohaAdventures when does the next tranche of the Trust Fund come through?
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAncientMarinersBlog my mums a cleaner and my dad was a garden fencer (now retired and works sweeping the floor in a petrol station forecourt). Both my parents worked exceptionally hard so that we could grow up never feeling like we were going without (because we didn't), we are all exceptionally blue collar and my parents both worked multiple jobs, simultaneously, to keep our heads above water and able to get some of the extras out of life, like going on holiday, or having a ten year old Ford Escort that the roof comes down on, that car of my Mums alone made kids on the estate think we must be rich 😂 My Dad never knew what a day off was, and he never spent his days down the pub with his friends. He regularly came home from work, tired, broken and bleeding, but he bought everything he made back home into the house, we were very fortunate in that regard and I'll always look up to him for that. He sacrificed a lot so that his family could have the things he never did as a child. Anyway, now Carly and I work all winter (mostly manual labour), save up and then go and explore all summer. We anchor 95% of the time, almost never go out for dinner, rarely buy new clothes and instead try and live as frugally as possible to get the most out of the little money we have. It’s not a life for everyone, lots of people need savings and pensions for their own peace of mind, which is understandable, but having spent much of my adult life as a prize fighter too, taking risks and living in the moment I guess is hardwired into my DNA. A trust fund would certainly make life much easier though than stepping into a professional Muay Thai fight when you’re short on cash for the month 😂👍🏽⛵️ However we are now blessed to have so many people support us through Patreon who enjoy watching the videos and that is incredibly humbling and helps a lot, especially when it comes to being able to buy better quality equipment than we otherwise could have. Super thankful to them 🙏🏻🙏🏻😁

Man I have to tell you, I enjoy your channel and the content on it, but... you talk to much for the camera doing a selfies, may I suggest to talk or narrate your histories showing us on camera a landscape or the think you are talking about, sometimes you talk about something and just show a little bit of it, I know is your channel and you can do whatever you want but may be you like to know the good things and the no too much good you are doing. Personally I think selfies are an ode to ego, but this is a personal thinking. Sorry for the criticism but Im doing it with all respect you deserve. Sorry for my ugly english and keep going.
