The 2019 Fox Shox 34 Step-Cast fork doesn't just shine on the climbs because of its weight but it absolutely rips on pretty much anything you can throw at it. The redesigned chassis saves almost half a pound over the standard 34 and is perfect for riders seeking a highly capable fork without any weight penalty. Granted, you are looking for something that is 120mm travel... In this video I talk about the fork and we show Zack from the Worldwide Cyclery crew pushing the fork to its limits on some seriously rough terrain.

Good stuff! I actually rode that fork on a Sb100 demo a couple weeks back and it felt exactly like a normal 34. Didn't even realize it was that much lighter! Good video guys!

"Pretty much stuck at 120mm of travel" ? Flase. Santa cruz blur trail is 110mm travel with 34 step cast.

Cal Shecklered I think he's saying you can't make it longer travel like the normal 34 by putting in a longer airspring, but you can shorten pretty much any fork.

I wonder if its possible to have a tapered fork, like the stanction and the bottom thing are both tapered, it would save a lot of weight but i dont know how the inside of an air fork works so im not sure if it would work but i think it would be pretty cool if it did

I've got a normal 34/130 on my Following MB. This might be a good way to shave some weight off my build. Whaddya think guys, good or bad idea on this bike? I was thinking of reducing the travel on my fork to a 120mm anyway. All the guys at Evil have 12O's on their MB's, although I believe a lot them are running MRP Ribbons.

I asked the guys at Evil about this. They said the 44 offset makes the bike's steering twitchy, and they didn't recommend it.

Interesting. By running a 44 it gives the following almost identicle head angle, wheelbase and travel figures to the sb100. The sb100 didnt feel twitchy, jsut really dircet which i like. Certainly needed a lot less effort to get over the front end to weight the front wheel and turned really nicley on tight switchbacks. Obviously gives a bit up on stablility on the downs. Thats the only think i find with my following with the 51. Really stable at speed but looses some directness.

I would agree. The only thing I don't like about my MB is that the front end will wander sometimes on steeper climbs. I lowered my stack a bit, and that helped. It's also one of of the reasons I'm switching to a 120mm up front. The guys at Evil (I talk to them a lot.) tell me that they designed it for a 120 up front, and that's the most balanced configuration. Still, it sounds like you've done the research, and the 44mm offset might be worth a try. I'm intrigued by the SB100, although I can't imagine it performing better downhill than the MB. The word is the MB will eventually have the same geometry as the new Offering (steeper STA, longer reach). An MB with those specs would be my dream bike. Keep us posted on your build. For the everyday aggressive XC trail rider, how much better is the Fit damper compared to the Grip?

In a nutshell the Fit damper is going to have its distinctive 3 positions of compression vs the infinite position knob on the Grip. Some people prefer the 3 distinct modes if the Fit but that's a personal preference. The other big thing would be the more consistent dampening of the Fit especially on really ruff or on longer descents. The Fit will have less of a tendency to "pack up" with repeated bumps. Thanks for enquiring and hopefully that shed some light on the subject!

No you cannot, the SC lowers are not compatible with normal 34 forks. :)

Haha I wish! The company is doing well but the bike industry is a very competitive place where it is extremely hard to squeak out much profit. I'm in the business and working hard because I love bikes and the people who ride bikes. It's fun to be in an industry you are passionate about. I'd go trade stocks or sell insurance if I wanted to get rich.
