REVISIONS: At 1:43 I don’t really explain this well enough, I want the wood to be thicker, drilling into 1/2” BB without hitting the metal on the floor left it feeling like it wasn’t secure enough. I don’t think the pine itself is stronger than Baltic Birch, I could have gone with 3/4” Bb but I am not a millionaire 😂 I was hoping to use the left over wood from the floor originally. So if you want the strength & have the money you can strip 3/4” Bb plywood 👍🏼

You explained it perfectly to me. My CVR is: I worked in the field building homes for 20 years and still in the office doing it remotely for the last ten. Yes, you definitely don't want your cabinet taking your head off in an accident. Pine is fine. We build houses out of it :)

3:18 - if you pull the "trigger" on that clamp and hold it, you can slide the clamp closed just by pushing on it - taking the slack out of it so to speak, and then pull it a couple of times to get it tight.

Hi Tory - I did not read through all the comments so this may be redundant. I suggest watching a few Humble Road videos. His vans are over the top budget wise but his methods are good for anyone. The best idea he presented, in my opinion, is to mock up full size cabinets with cardboard prior to building. That way you can see in real time how big everything is. We did when we built our van six years ago and have not wanted to, nor needed to make any modifications. Another tip - We did not build any tall cabinets nor upper cabinets. Hence, we have about 7 feet if uninterrupted counter along the driver wall and five feet on the passenger wall. Our Sprinter is a 170. We have a queen bed in the back and it is all storage in bins underneath. We minimalized our crap as far as we could so we never pine for more space. The openness of our interior is amazing. We constantly get comments from people with traditional floor plans (showers, upper cabinets, etc) that they are amazed with our spaciousness. Stuck in storms for a few days are great fun. We never feel cramped.

Hi Tory Another fun video its interesting to note that 4’6” is the standard and most common size for a double bed in the UK. I was wandering, why not hire an electric or pneumatic rivnut gun to get the whole job done faster. Also mitre saws are always faster than jigsaws if you have straight cuts to do, same for circular saws, jigsaws should mainly be used for shaped cuts. Setting up jigs if you have 10 or more similar cuts makes everything quicker, a mitre saw stand is great for this as they have inbuilt adjustable stops. I would add high strength adhesive at any of the contact areas along with the bolts or screws. I would also soak the wood in preservative before painting. The mirror is great as is the sword but you have missed out, you should have purchased a wand first to allow you to speed up the build. 😂😂😂

At long last, I have the answer to the most burning of my questions: what to use to fix interior frame to metal without drilling into the metal. Rivnuts! First van builder I've watched to describe this detail. Thanks, Tory‼️
@mlong1958
@mlong1958 29 күн бұрын
Rivnuts are great. I'm using them; however, one tip is to not just squeeze it once. I always seat the rivnut and then turn the adjustment knob another half or full turn and seat it again. This tightens it up just a little bit more for a more secure nut. I haven't had one spin on me yet.

This lady here is ok. I was lifting weights and I like to either listen to music or watch something on my computer while doing my workouts. So, I decided to watch something, and I do like the videos about camping and van life, so she was the first one I saw so I figured I would watch her. She's so funny. She was cracking me up. Some of the wild things she was doing and saying while building her van made me have to put my weights down a few times because of laughing. She's just to cool for school. I'm glad I picked your video to watch during my workout today. Great Job Tory! You're Awesome! Both in your van building and being a very funny person.

Tory there is a easy way to install threaded rivets. Screw in a threaded bolt the same size threw a larger nut. Take your impact wrench and tighten the bolt down. That should spread the back side out perfectly. Then unscrew the the bolt the the rivet is set. No hassle, no rivet gun (take it back to store). This is very fast with the impact wrench.

A few highlights: -The very unexpected laugh at 2:28 -The even more unexpected event that happened at 4:10 - A behind the scenes shot of a screw being screwed at 7:22 !! - physically impossible acrobatics at 8:55 - the shoes throughout the whole video. I never notice stuff like that, but some 10-15 years ago every teen girl was wearing these kind of sandals and then they suddenly disappeared and I cannot understand why.

Tory, I wonder if you or any of your viewers would have a good reason why a murphy bed would not be practical?? Lots of extra daytime space while not using the bed, maybe I'm missing something?? A suggestion . . . Putting a pair of 10" or 12" pieces of pipe over the handles of your rib nut tool would give you more leverage and not require hip action? Your build looks interesting and it appears you think ahead and are well planned! S. Carolina

Hey Tory.. Loving your vlog. I now have my 144 Sprinter and am embarking on the journey. Bought a solar panel, fan and steps.. the AWD is really high for an 84yo guy to get into muchless my wife who needs a ladder. Current question.. For your bed support.. Why something as heavy as a 2x6.. The walls carry so much with the rivnuts. I'd think 2x3 would be more than enough.. That said.. I haven't seen where you are going next. Keep up the good work.
