Camper Van Build Gone WRONG… No Where To Sleep Tonight…?

While trying to install a pepper spray self defense system I may have accidentally had it explode out the tube and spray all over me & my van.... So now I have to figure out what to do when I can't sleep in my own bed....
Isn't vanlife just so much fun! YAY! haha 😆
Also, if you have followed me a while now you may see how I stubborn I am about getting hotels & payed campsites LOL I hate spending money on things I can problem solve my way out of or just suck it up & deal with... haha

One thing to note is that if you take the van to Canada pepper spray is illegal, as are other defensive sprays like mace.

Omg 😱 that was a bad day. So weird that connector failed. I’ve used them so many times at work and they just work. I’m sure you’ve already figured it out by now but I usually just snip the end with a wire cutter and push it in as far as possible then pull on it to make sure it’s in. By the way what a cool safety idea 👍

So sorry to see that the hose came off … Pepper spray is so enjoyable… And no you did not have the tube very well-connected and clamped down… you can also purchase a BYRNA delivery system… it’s a CO2 pellet gun, fires a .68 caliber hard plastic ball or pepper balls that break on impact… does work…

In the future, put the cannister and connection hose inside of a clear, plastic bag to contain any leakage when you squeeze the trigger. 🙂 Second, wrap a bit of "teflon tape" ($3) from Lowes around the outside of the hose connection or even just electrical tape to seal any potential leaks. Sorry that happened to you. 🥺 Hope for the best outcome but always *PREPARE* for the worst outcome. 😁

Been there due to job requirements. It's good that it burns, it means it works! Get a clamp to clamp it on so there isn't any question. You don't want to have to bail out in a bad situation. Also, you can indure it, but it takes will power. If that happens, turn the vehicle on and blower on full to creat positive pressure to blow the spray out.

People think it's milk you need. It may help some but what you need is oil. Coconut oil, cooking oil, avocado oil, olive oil. A good fatty oil will stop the burning. Oil can be ingested, put in your eyes and rubbed on the skin.

If you are going to be attaching a hose to a device which is pressurized, you may want to look into using Jubilee Clips. If you do use one, be aware that the rubber of the hose may "relax", requiring you to further tighten the Clip after 10 or 15 minutes.

PEPPER SPRAY? Not always the best self-defense tool. Wind, indoors, crowds of people all can lead to a mishap.

For self defense you should generally get the sprays that shoot more of a jet of liquid. This is not the average application

I feel for ya. As someone who has run mace and tear gas training for police and army units... We used to use Johnson & Johnson no tears baby shampoo to wash it out after exposure. The trouble with hot water is it opens up the pores in your skin and just exposes you again. The baby shampoo broke down the oils of the pepper spray without being too harsh on your skin. Sorry this was a day late/dollar short to help you. But maybe next time.

Tory my dear, just an FYI... It's probably not a good idea to use bear spray for mouthwash. 1. It gets a bit warm and 2. It tastes terrible. 🤣 Please be more careful! Also after watching your experiment a couple times, I'm going to guess that you're missing an O-ring in the connection. Anyway, stay safe and as always, BIG HUGS from Tennessee!

Wiping your arms and hair with vinegar especially apple cider vinegar will ease the burning sensation or baking powder mixed with water will also help.

Small 1/2” or whatever size hose, hose clamps will make your life so much easier! Any auto parts store even Walmart will have hose clamps.

One of the best securities I have installed in my van is thunderbolt locks. I highly recommend them. Also, the station casinos (pretty much all the casinos off the strip) usually have a decent amount of uncovered parking and are usually cheaper to stay at as well if you do have to end up getting a room.

Hilarious intro, The split second after pepper spray squirted and you made the face and quickly made a B-line towards the doors, you just can't make this stuff up. But your such the trooper to soldier on and get chores done well because you had to, and hit the laundry-mat Ughh! my least favorite chore! but we all need clean clothes. That parking lot really isn't sketchy, I know exactly where it is. Pro tip, where you put the sticky back zip tie mounts, next time you use them, a couple drops of super glue works wonders. The summer heat will make the adhesive fail

Should this happen again, HAIR SPRAY!!!! When cops pepper spray someone, they spray hair spray on them before putting them in their car. This binds to the capsaicin and keeps it from becoming airborne and irritating you. Spray on the affected areas and you should be able to wash it off easier.

Hey Tori, this is David the traveling ferret I live in Vegas. I was watching your video. What a coincidence I was telling my friend I had the same idea but instead of running hoses everywhere, just do with the armor cars. Do you just need to drill a little hole? right under each door lock that way you could just stick the little hose out each hole and spray if you ever need any help or assistance, please feel free. if all else fails, have a strong chilli or aa hot curry, thatll get rid of the taste and pepper burn, but it will replace it with a more flavoursome chille or heat taste.

You handled things pretty well. Such a great idea but sorry that you had to go through that. Maybe put the canister in a plastic bag before trying it. Might catch some of the spray if it doesn't work.

I know how you feel, during my time in the marines, we had to take riot control training, one part they deliberately sprayed OC spray directly into our eyes, and we were ordered to go through a gauntlet of punching bags and other combat training while damn near incapacitated with OC in our eyes. Later that night,the whole barracks were screaming while showering because it pretty much reactivated the burn, what a time, and YES I never want to get near OC spray 😢

it says use cold water and rinse the skin 15 to 20 minutes to wash off pepper spray and warned not use hot waters as it intensifies the burning feeling/pain.

I feel your pain. I used to work in the oilfields in Canada and had to carry bear spray in my rig. One night in a torrential downpour, I accidently hit the trigger and ended up dosing myself. Ended up outside, on my hands and knees, puking in a mudpuddle. Not fun.

Tory this is a bit late to tell you But if you have plain yogurt in your fridge and coat is onto where the burning sensation is worst, leave it for an hour and then rinse off, the sensation should be gone. I know because on vacation in former Yugoslavia I burned the insides of my thighs, to the extent I could not walk. And it was a chambermaid told me what to do and it worked. So maybe next time try it for yourself and see?

I’m only 4 minutes in and I’m sorry I laughed when it leaked then leaked on the second test. Perhaps on the next test you put it into a garbage bag that way if it leaks again it will be contained to the bag rather than spay into the van.

Damn, is it wrong that I think we all saw that coming, but so sorry it happened. Also, might be too late now and I'm sure someone has mentioned this, but baby shampoo (no tears) is your best friend, and speaking from experience, only COLD showers. You might also have to wash your stuff again to be safe.

I work in a maximum security prison, so I get conditionally sprayed with pepper spray about once a month. And I have to keep working through it. Since this is an "occupational hazard" to me I did what I almost always do. LAUGHED MY ASS OFF! Cause there is not much else you can do but gag and bare it. Welcome to MY WORLD Tory.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but if you test it again. Maybe don’t do it right beside your face, or over anything valuable. You can put it in a garbage bag and test it in there. That way if it does spray everywhere, the bag will contain it

I did that once on a hike. We encountered a not so friendly feral dog and it lunged at my daughter who was only about four at the time so I sprayed it down with bear spray and the blasted wind just had to gust up at the exact same time and blew some of it back onto me and that @#$% burned like the lake of fire for at least three hours.

What an unexpected vid! Your defense system almost the same as what ships use fighting off Somali pirates, lol. Tip: Use cold cream or CeraVe to heal your skin. Also, air dry your clothes, commercial dryers can bake the pepper smell into fabbric.

If you are living in your van stay in the west side or northwest of Vegas. There are two police stations also on the Westside. Any showering laundromat, also in the west side of town. The very far west. Nowhere in Vegas is safe but it's safer on that side of town. God Bless

When eating hot peppers or while breathing pepper spray, always put lip balm on to protect your lips.... Always have gummy candy to suck on if you get pepper spray in your mouth.

Oof, that looked miserable. That's a lot of hose for that small canister to force the spray through. It's going to take the path of least resistant. Try snugging a zip tie to the connector so that it is not the weakest point in the system.

@Tory Delury. Sorry to see you got yourself peppered sprayed. The idea to install this self-defense item wasn't a bad thing. In fact, it's a great thought. It may take a week or more for the fumes to finally be gone. You could take it to do it your self car wash and wash the rest of it off the floors. I hope that since this happen like maybe a few days ago that things have gotten better. What is your next project that your going to do on the van? Well you take care and be safe.
