Frank Bridge (1879-1941), underappreciated, underplayed, and still little known even in his native England, is most frequently recognized today as the teacher of the young Benjamin Britten, who acknowledged his teacher's influence in a popular early work. Bridge's sizable musical catalog is devoted primarily to chamber music and songs; he wrote orchestral music but composed no symphonies and only one work he called a concerto, Oration, Concerto Elegiaco for Cello and Orchestra.

Indeed Frank Bridge is underplayed and underrated ! And that's a shame ! Here in France very few people would be able to say if Britten's teacher is a politician, a soccer player, a beer brewer or what not ... And that's another shame ! Thank you Plotin for uploading these beautiful and attractive pieces. I do appreciate. What a name you've chosen ! A Greek philosopher, and not the least of them ...

Frank Bridges. A name new to me. This first one is a lovely flowing and lyrical piece with surprises in sound.

Thanks for the feedback! There's definitely much to discover in Bridge's music, especially in his late works where he got inspired by Schönbergs Twelve-tone technique.
