Check the CT channel here. He did the heater channel replacement on a regular 1965 Beetle but he was wise in fitting the body to the chassis while welding the new heater channels to make sure body and chassis aligned perfectly.

Play list is a good idea, (did) are you going to 'pre-set' the heater channel on the frame and then tack it in?
