I was fortunate to grow up in the 80's when all this wonderful music from ZTT was being released. Art of Noise, Frankie, Grace Jones, The Buggles, Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley, 808 State; all were in the ZTT stable. When this song was released there was a very real threat of nuclear war and this captures the angst, the defiance, the fear and the loathing of nuclear conflict in the 80s.

These ZTT recordings are enduring works of art. So ambitious, so rewarding, so understandable that a lot of people making records were in awe of them too. I remember collecting all of these as they came out and hunting in some cases for years for certain mixes. That first 12 inch of "Dr. Mabuse" is such an amazing record too. What that whole group was doing-Lipson, Langan, Jeczalik, Dudley-was doing was just incredible.

One of the most powrful songs against the establishment. A political thriller of two leaders to fight it out in a ring to settle the score of who is the most powerful on earth. Banned in nearly twenty countries Holly Johnson kept his resolve at bashing his way into history to give the public what they wanted. And this song was no exception to show what it means to let yourself be heard no matter the cost. Brilliant song, and a powerful message to those in so called unreachable places.

Wonderful music. I remember, that these atom war - connected lyrics were on the vinyl album "Pleasure Dome", which was released around 1984. But for a long time I had only a tape copy of that album, and when I bought it as CD about 10 years later, these lyrics where gone, and substituted by some words about sex. I was really really disappointed. These words, like "Mine is the last voice that you will ever hear" make me still shiver, remembering, how close we were to a final war in those days.

This song is a lot cleverer than people give it credit for "You may pronounce us guilty a thousand times over, but the Goddess of the Eternal Court of History will smile and tear to tatters the brief of the State Prosecutor and the sentence of this court, for She acquits us." is taken from the infamous part of Adolf Hitler's speech in court in 1923 following his arrest after the failed coup d'etat of Beer Hall Putsch by the NAZI Party, "History will absolve" is taken from Fidel Castro's "History will absolve me" speech in his own defense in court against the charges brought against him after he led an attack on the Moncada Barracks. The put the body outside is taken from the British "protect and survive" public information film on how to survive a nuclear attack and placing the bodies outside making sure tagging for identification purposes... it is interesting that the first Hitler speech was done by Chris Barry in the voice of Ronald Regan the US president at the time as if he was saying the same thing, the part "On the air America/I modelled shirts by Van Heusen", a clear reference to then US President Ronald Reagan, who had advertised for Phillips Van Heusen in 1953, is an American clothing company which owns brands such as Van Heusen, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, were suspected of buying from forced child labour manufacturers and whose first film had been titled Love Is On The Air, a film in which Ronald Regan starred in!!, other versions of this song had Richard Nixon quotes taken from an ad from his 1960 US Presidential campaign ("No.. firm diplomacy... No.. peace for America and the world"), Working for the Black Gas is a reference that under Ronald Regan and Margaret Thatcher and the uncertainty of the cold war Oil prices had become dearer than gold and we may all as well be paid in petrol (gas to our american cousins)

After hearing this in the 80's 1/2 asleep in my room, I ended up having a nightmare that I ? was on a spacecraft hurling out away from earth and as I ran through the halls of this huge ship, "MINE IS THE LAST VOICE YOU WILL EVER HEAR" kept playing over the intercom. I.woke up thinking it was the coolest bad dream I ever had. Found the song that week by telling the clerk at wax records in Chicago the lyric I remembered.

In the 80's I heard this version of Two Rock 101 tribes in one sitting ... listen and never faded from my mind, the cartoon voice of Federico Lira, mentioned something like this: "... Frankie Goes to Hollywood with Two Tribes - Two tribes, describes the history of the struggle between two powers with fatal consequences for all ... "he emphasized was the one occasion that listen achieved with his bullet. After nearly 30 years of searching for lost times, able to find this version; in Mexico City just came to light in Rock 101, (concept Maestro Luis Gerardo Salas - r101ck.mx ) After that time is that thanks to the magic of the internet and youtube, you might hear in great detail all the Trevor Horn influence in the masterful interpretation of Frankie goes to Hollywood. Thank you very much to TheUTubeTeamSucks

These guys may have gone further had they stuck to the 12"/ 7" as central formula as opposed to the age old pain of album obligation. There was a lot of pressure on them by spring '85. Those first 3 singles hit Number 1 three in a row in '84.
