Carissa, Iwan, Frankie & Albi
Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

One of the most tedious, but necessary jobs at my house is the weed eating (strimmer). It's the only time I grumble about any rain we're getting. I love potato and leek soup. Its so homey. If he's your dad's cousin, I think that makes him your second cousin. After that, they just become shirt tail relatives. Blessed Be!

It really is astonishing how much difference there is in the climate your side of the mountains! I first came across your channel last winter whilst getting bored sitting in my kitchen waiting for the rain to stop, and it was paradoxically strangely calming watching other people getting outside and doing the kind of work I should have been doing 🙃. Here on the northern slopes of the Serra do Açor we haven't hit 30℃ yet, let alone 38℃, and we've got the rain back on Monday. Everything is still fully green and insanely lush and jungley. No cicadas chirping yet. Haven't even heard the cuckoo and that's usually here by Easter. All the areas I strimmed the last good spell we had are back above knee height already and I haven't even got the summer veg in the garden yet ... so yeah, still watching 🤣 ... Hope you're feeling better now Carissa.

The period to prune the olive trees is quickly after you harvest the olives. We prune the olive trees to be like an umbrella. I don't know who told you to prune them when they have flowers. I am from Greece Crete, my olive is 0,3 degrees and I sell it 14€ per liter. To work with olive trees is a very big and hard lesson to learn for every season of the year.
@FrankieOffGrid
@FrankieOffGrid 20 күн бұрын
It’s actually the best time to prune them, they growth spurt is much quicker and there’s much less rain so less risky. A lot of people do prune while harvesting around here too.. but you leave the tree with a much higher chance of catching diseases. They’re incredibly hardy trees so I think you could probably prune them any time of year.
@Sandras12374
@Sandras12374 13 күн бұрын
You can probably prune them at any time but harvest will vary greatly. I am sure though that you have done your research and consulted locals, every place has its own varieties which need different care. Here in Greece, if you ask older people (who have years worth of olive-pruning-wisdom), they will tell you to prune up until the tree has started flowering. 🌿😊
