Greg from How To Drink actually did a very in-depth look at this one, and in one of his videos even opened up the machine. The internal mechanism of the thing is... honestly pretty horrifying. Different alcohols are getting pulled through the same tubes (not to mention that gin and rum are in the same socket), and Greg had all sorts of concerns about how sanitary it would be over time, especially with the fact that alcohol would just be left... sitting in the tubes. Never mind that if you go from, say, a rum drink to a whisky drink, you would get what rum was left in the pipe before the whisky was dispensed. This just feels like an all-around horribly designed machine. And, speaking of Keurig, they actually had made a similar device, only it was one where the pods did contain the alcohol. However, they've already discontinued their cocktail machine. What makes that sad is that under the top cover, the people who worked on it had actually had their signatures engraved in the plastic... they believed in it that much.

HTD did a teardown of this machine and it revealed that all the lines for the spirits junction to the same tube, so basically every drink you're getting has a mix of everything to an extent, but you don't notice because of how overpowering the pods are, but at that point why not just have a neutral spirit dispenser and leave all the flavoring to the pods? The design reveals some pretty damning flaws of contamination and possibility of mold development from old fluids in the lines

@@St0ne2O61 I wouldn't go that far, this channel is no stranger to trashing a product. I think it comes more from the novelty to a hobbyist or someone who doesn't do cocktails that much versus someone like HTD who is a lot more versed in cocktail preparation. I mean when you're making a margarita with this and you know the only spirit is going to be tequila and the pod can't contain Cointreau it's already going to be a compromise, you're trading convenience for quality and to someone who just likes gadgets this may be enough.
@WittyDroog2 жыл бұрын
@@NorthAveBeachBum I think the IDEA is that it gives a final shot of water to clear the line but as HTD discovered the main line that leads to the spout will still have fluids in it and it'll taste like a mixture of water and all the spirits you used, which is pretty gnarly to shoot into your drink. Given the way the plumbing is designed it's difficult to completely flush the system due to how some of the line junctions are made. Depending on how long it sits before you use it again those fluids could be very old and while spirits can combat mold growth, water can't. It's the same issue a lot of these pod systems. I won't go as far to say the Bartesian is cheap or poorly made, but it's clear that they made some strange decisions that would affect overall drink quality like going with a single pump system over multiple (also having rum/vodka share a spot over gin/vodka which are very similar) At the end of the day I still think a more straightforward machine would be a single neutral spirit dispenser and let the pod be the flavoring as you're already making some ingredient compromises.

Where do you find mixers so cheap? Mixers are almost as much as the liquor now.
@melsterifficmama18082 жыл бұрын
@@azwildcats69 Well, a two liter bottle of coke, a lemon and some simple syrup made from sugar water cooked down would run under $3 to make many servings of long island iced tea. The reason mixers cost so much is because you buy so many different ones at once in full sized bottles, but if you figure out how much you use for any one drink, it's maybe 50 cents, nowhere near $2.50.

btw watch out mold grows in the tubes they are all fed through small piping tubes no real cleaning and the water and alcohol just sits mixing together. and each drink gets previous alcohol types mixed in btw lol.

Like a Kuerig this is good for casual use. If used even moderately the cost becomes cumbersome and IMHO not worth it. Unless it comes with an annual contract for supplies at a much discounted price (alcohol not included of course)

I personally enjoy making drinks, and I like using different spirits. For example I made a Crown Rose which is a Jack Rose but with Crown Royal Regal Apple instead of brandy. Or I might want a whiskey sour with a bourbon or scotch, being limited and also not garnishing or using fresh ingredients ruins the fun for me.

I posted earlier comment somewhat in favor of this but this something just occurred to me, the only unique and absolutely necessary thing is the flavoring mix for your individual drink. The machine does nothing special only taking a certain amount of alcohol and water and mixing it with the flavoring. So instead you buy a jar of mixer. You then pour out a measured amount of the mix into a cup you then pour a certain amount of water water into the cup you then pour a certain amount of the alcohol for that drink. Cuz all the machine is doing is measuring out alcohol and water to a pre-measured amount of drink mix. You skipp the $300 machine and stir them together yourself. But if saving the tremendous effort of measuring and pouring three things into a glass is too much for you then spend the $300. See with a Keurig machine it actually brews coffee something you need to take extra steps to remove the grounds or filter them the machine does automatically.

Now I could be wrong but it seems like you only get one drink per capsule and that is a waste of time and money, if there’s more than one or two people you’re better off with a pitcher or two of different drinks .

James, a heads up I learned from another channel ("How To Drink"). After testing the thing, he decided to take it apart and learned that the way the thing is wired, you're almost certain to get some leakage between the different alcohols. I would suggest if you ever revisit this thing, a really interesting test would be to fill each of the four liquor containers with a different colored dye and then seeing how pure the color is of your mixed drink. This may not be too much of a problem going from a relatively neutral liquor like vodka to a strong tasting one like whiskey, but would you really want a strong whiskey hint in your screwdriver? I'd love to see that test, if you ever decide to revisit this one.

This product would be an immediate buy if it also had a vacuum attachment and bottle for mixers. Let's say you like Margaritas/LIIT, have a few mixers ready to go or make beforehand. The machine could be calibrated for "Custom mixers"- amount in mL/oz/etc. Would go a long way in making a much more usable product

The cost on those pods is crazy, not like the cost of a drink at a bar, but pretty high for a pack of them for just home drinks.

Keurig did make one called the drinkworks but it was terrible. Came with alcohol in them but you would never get a buzz from the drinks. They discontinued the machine about a month ago. The bartessian is amazing I've had mine for a year now and love it. The drinks are tasty and you can add your own liquor to experiment. They also offer a subscription program to try new capsules. Another cool thing is black and decker partnered with bartessian to make a cheaper version of their cocktail maker but still uses their capsules.

You forgot the con of lots of plastic waste. While technically recyclable most processing plants don't do well with tiny pieces and so they often end up in landfill.

The only way I would get this is if you could get a reusable pod that you add your own mixers too and program/select the shots you want that pod to use. Then you could get 20 or so of the reusable pod. Perfect for a dinner with the wife and a coupe of friends.

Just get a NOVA robot to make your cocktail... "Glass, ice, gin, tonic...a twist of lime" 😄 (Ah, the old classics...) Malfunction! Need input 😆 Edit: Best part is, you don't have to tip it 😉 The biggest con I saw was that you need to buy more mix formula packs depending on what you like. (That and the price) 😀

one suggestion use bottled water NOT distilled water . DISTILLED WATER IS NOT HEALTHY TO DRINK LOVE your reviews
@bigcj73592 жыл бұрын
I think it's fine to drink it just doesn't taste good since it has no minerals in it. If you rely on water for some of your mineral intake then I'd guess it could be unhealthy long term. Distilled water is like any other water - just better for humidifiers than drinking.
