I can't wrap my head around it! Seeing his very early work where Freddie is actually trying to hide from the camera, to his totally extroverted performances at Rainbow Theatre and Hammersmith! Such a complex personality

@Teo Torriatte I love this, thank you. It's no mean feat to push a shy personality out this far, but Freddie revels in it, and looks very much the part. Seems to be all his own work too

So many people think he was outrageous and bombastic and wanted everything his own way, but that's just a persona he put on for the stage and in a lot of interviews. In reality he was shy, kind, and empathetic.

He was highly coked up in some moments.

38:51 When Freddie corrected the interviewer saying Queen’s sound isn’t _”HIS_ sound”, it’s a “Queen sound” as a quartet, was in classic Freddie style! I’ve heard him say that in _multiple_ interviews, and he was always very adamant about giving each member of Queen EQUAL credit, which makes me respect him even more than I already did. After all, they all sang and they all wrote their own songs on Queen albums.

that movie is a travesty and does not do him justice in any way. Freddie would have hated the sloppy way it was done : story, costumes, characters... a complete nightmare

@@niamhsorcha3091 How do you know what the man would've liked and didn't like? Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean he'd feel the same way.
@niamhsorcha30915 жыл бұрын
@@zachpohlman321 Very simple: because Freddie, in his own words, was a "perfectionist". But this movie is FAR from being accurate about his life, the complexity of his character, his relation to Mary & the true story of Queen. The producers even twisted the point in his life when he found out he has AIDS . It also left out the probably most important chapter of Freddies' life: how he dealt with AIDS and the beautiful music & lyrics he wrote during this time. This movie couldn't be further away from being "perfect" The producers even twisted the point in his life when he found out he has AIDS . Freddie was truthful in every thing he did but this movie is a cringy travesty
@gagetaylor1925 жыл бұрын
@@niamhsorcha3091 The movies not a fucking documentary, it's to capture the image and character of Freddie and introduce him to the newer generation. The movie did a damn good job of it too, every queen or Freddie Mercury related video i visit there's comments around the time that people had finished watching the movie. Myself included. If anybody else BUT Rami played Freddie i don't think i would have taken interest, Rami did a spectacular job. I've had queen stuck in my head nonstop for days.
@niamhsorcha30915 жыл бұрын
@@gagetaylor192 "The movies not a fucking documentary," then the bumbling filmmakers" should write a completely FICTIONAL movie and not USE Freddies' name and the music as marketing tool to promote their amateurish piece of sh*t. Tell the true story regarding the important aspects of a character or do a complete fictional account , it's one or the other. Everything else in between his nauseating hypocrisy.

Despite his fame and money, he ALWAYS came across as a simple guy with a great sense of humor. He didn't let fame go to his head. AND he was a cat lover, he would call to talk to his cats while on tour. It is such a shame he died of AIDS. He had a voice that could probably shatter glass. You forget how young he was when he died- the full effects of smoking never had the chance to hit. Had Freddie lived into his 50s, 60s and later, his voice would have suffered permanent damage. The added impact of simultaneous cocaine and alcohol really shortens a singers life and range. I'd you don't believe me, listen to early Elton John - a clear as a bell tenor- and Eltons sound today.

@James Well you are very much so correct, I do believe Freddie was extremely wreckless with his actions and his death could've been avoidable. However, I didn't say any of that because he's dead, and yes there are PLENTY of other great showmen. But in my opinion Freddie gave us something many didn't, just so sad he couldn't have stayed longer. He had so much more music left in him.

@James @James I would be surprised if you name ONE of todays "star" that has the talent, the skills, the impact, the diversity and the intelligence of Freddie. You know quite well there isn't . And who are you to judge who gave AIDS to whom? His lovers ( like Paul Prenter,Tony Bastin) died of Aids prior to him. On top, Freddie was known to be a very generous, considerate & kind human being to everyone, so very much the opposite of reckless.

This was actually a lot more interesting for me to watch than the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. That was a good movie, but this allows you to get as good of glimpse at the man Freddy actually was that you'll ever get without have knowing him first hand. He seemed like a great person and a lot of fun to be around. It's sad how famous people are usually only remembered for their talent, and rarely ever for themselves. This would be an instance where I think it's safe to say, the man lives up to his legend in every aspect, not just his music.

What a tremendous, heartbreaking waste - the loss of such creative genius, of such a unique voice & personality as Freddie Mercury's in his prime, to his family & friends, his band-mates & fans, & to the world at-large. Granted, there will be other great talents, but his was one of a kind; & altho I can finally once again watch/listen w/a laugh & a smile at his honesty & attitude, I will never completely get over the absence of his voice. Thank heavens for the snippets of his spirit that were captured on film & via the musical recordings we still enjoy. Blessed Be, Farrokh Bulsara - may u forever Rock in Peace.

Don't forget. He would have been 72 today. The energy, and voice no longer the same. And certainly he would not have looked the same. That should make getting over the "absence of his voice" easy. Logical .It's not like he died yesterday when he was 45 .

Rest in peace Freddie and Montserrat, she passed this last October. In recognition; here is her words translated in the interview that starts at 11:59 INTERVIEWER: Montserrat, when you were offered to record this disc, had you already listened to Freddie's piece? Or were you introduced to pieces when you agreed to work with him. MONTSERRAT: I've always listened to Freddie's music for many years, because my sons highly adore Freddie. So the voice and music of Freddie always sounds in my house, but something that felt familiar was his style, the smooth and imperative melodies that he puts out, it surprised me when he offered to work along side Freddie. So it was incredible to get the offer, and I am very excited for it! I found that the music was marvelous; when he sits on the piano & he played me his improvisations, his pieces and all his thoughts to compose for us in Spain seemed simply marvelous. Over all Freddie is such an excellent musician, and in compositions, really he is marvelous, he's magnificent.. INTERVIEWER: Freddie in the interview, in the weekly information you said you liked very much Montserrat cover, was it in that moment when you decided to make the record together, or the idea came before then? - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....she liked it! Now she's a - a Rock & Roller! INTERVIEWER: How was the proposal to make this song Montserrat? MONTSERRAT: Musical! (Speaks to Freddie) Your proposal brought a musical one; and I loved it when Freddie came to Barcelona, his music sounded, the melody, his creations completely captivated me. INTERVIEWER: Freddie what do you think this record is going to mean in your career? - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....wait until we're finished with some of the other ones, we're working on them! INTERVIEWER: Montserrat, this is the first time that you record a disc of this style, with these characteristics, why? MONTSERRAT: In the first place, to record a disc of this type, inspiration is needed to contain in a musical background. Only someone so musical, does not make me only proud, but it's a consultation and I can assure you, when Freddie sits down on the piano, and commences his improvisations, the melody his acts out and creates is marvelous, Freddie recommended me music which I had played at the Covent Garden in London on the 29th of March, which the British people simply adored. Freddie's music was comes from something very special, corresponding to the heart, for the heart. Freddie I say your music is from your heart, that's why it came to my heart. - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....And the crowd just loved the kisses! INTERVIEWER: Freddie before the rehearsals had started, what was the thing that worried you the most? - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....and um, I think people have to listen to it and make up their own minds. INTERVIEWER: Montserrat, is there anything that might worry you? MONTSERRAT: In the music, no. But I do have worries to be able to interpret Freddie's music, I want it to be real, and felt overall form both voices to mix right, and at the same time, to have the expression, because in example; when Freddie and I had from the start began forming these, ideas for Barcelona, the lyrics, words we found that the music expresses about Barcelona, about it's beauty, and to wish to come to such a beautiful place. I profoundly appreciate Freddie for making this for our city, I also find that the verses start with a grand smoothness and harmony, the singing proceeds to have such great expression to finish with such an enthusiastic climax - "Out of this world!" *Laughs* INTERVIEWER: Freddie would you like for this song to become the OFFICIAL SONG IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES FOR BARCELONA IN 92'? - FREDDIE SPEAKS - Yes yes of course!.....in fact for everybody, I hope they like it? INTERVIEWER: Montserrat, how did the representation of Barcelona and has the decision for place of performance come about? MONTSERRAT: It seems to me to be very beautiful, because they found to choose the appropriate place so excellent, our sea, is our sea. Our air, is our air. So this place is very marvelous, it's the first thing you see when you come here. - INTERVIEWER & FREDDIE SPEAK - ....They're all gonna listen to it, of course it starts here. INTERVIEWER: What is the next step in your career Freddie? - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....Im lookjing forward to all that time INTERVIEWER: Montserrat, this scenario, with the younger people and this type of music isn't what your used to. Do you think this will bring you closer to the youth? MONTSERRAT: Well to be perfectly honest, the youth's always come to the opera, and at the same time, I think this approach of two voices, because Freddie holds such an amazing Soprano, is maintained in a line, where no one has experimented with such a mix as well as Freddie has come up. - FREDDIE SPEAKS - .....And I think we've done it! INTERVIEWER: Don't go now because they are going to offer you a congratulatory gift of a silver plaque of a ship in honor of this amazing show in representation of the Santa Maria. -END- Hope someone read this.
