Free copper wire is still everywhere in old TV's, microwaves, computers , on power circuit boards, electric motors and many other electrical appliances.
Free copper doesn't come any free'er if you want copper for casting ingots etc, this is how I get it and there's plenty still around if you want free copper too.
Scrapping tools, safety gear, furnaces, ingot moulds etc that I use or recommend.. www.amazon.com/shop/ewasteben

Unlike many people on here, or the entire net to be honest, you are providing quality information and knowledge. I almost never comment but wanted to take a moment to say that you should be proud of the service you provide and to not pay any attention to the negativity so many propagate. The mantra of those posting should be " In the time it took to leave that negative comment you could have found something you do LIKE." Keep on being you and thank you.

Well, technically but not technically. It's only really free if someone gives it to you for free without any work involved. Once you have to put in labor, it's no longer "free". It costs whatever you value your time at.

They scoff and laugh at you for scrapping even when I know they have the time to do it themselfs but they are just too good for scrapping. 30% of Canada's copper supply is scrapped copper. That's huge. Because mining new copper is more environmentally damaging. For example it produces arsenic as a byproduct. So the more people get out of landfills; the better. So good on this gentleman.

And then theirs people like us, we realize you have to put a little elbow grease into separating metals from things you get free, by going and getting it. Scraping is a way to make money if you aren’t afraid of working, it’s also relaxing for me, along with fun to see how things work or are put together.

I see all these discarded metals and other pollution laying in the streets and in alleys. I got the idea to start picking them up. There are many benefits to doing this: It adds to my exercise, bend up and down to pick them up. I am being a good steward of this Earth. Plus, I get a a little money doing it. Exactly, it's free because you didn't pay anything for it. Your time to scrap it, maybe melt it, that's your time to allocate. Somebody wants to factor in your time, driving, etc if you wanted to go buy copper? Uh, and that's new copper, not recycled copper, so factor in the mining cost, etc for that NEW copper. Anything you can recycle, you didn't have to mine.

Free copper is good indeed...especially if your into casting metal into things. The idiots who say you have to spend the gas...you still have to drive somewhere if you're going to buy it. CRT televisions are what I focus on.
