I love Tameles, boar shoulder butt with trim. So here’s a ? I’m thinking if you go middle of the road price like you said rugar American, Savage 110, howa, begara, or a tikka they will all shot 1min or less depending on the nut behind the wheel? Am I right? I been looking for my first non AR rifle my main thing was a really smooth bolt,I’ve heard tikka always a winner have you ever felt one to compare? I would need a heavier rifle so I was thinking adding or getting a chassis it would be for killing paper at 500 and beyond goal is get to 1000 plus at 1min or better, thinking 308 because ammos cheaper the 6.5 by half, I reload so the recipe is doable maybe not easy, disabled now can’t do beyound the range now but still like plinking. Good luck would like your thoughts if you think it’s too Gucci let me know only reason I was thinking of spending a little more for a tikka was this probably be first/last bolt gun. Addicted to my gas guns. If I could find a AR10 to go 1000 would stay with gas, maybe like the idea of a bolt gun.

I have some experience with Tikka and Bergara. Bergara is a Remington 700, just better built. Tikka is a proprietary design and like the Ruger American, they partially float the action using pillars. Tikka is a very well built, well designed rifle. They also use the same thread pattern as Ruger American on their barrels. Finish on the bolt and parts is well done. Not Gucci in my opinion if you’re planning on buying one bolt gun and calling it good. As I’m sure you’re aware, 6.5 outperforms .308 long distance. But that doesn’t meant .308 isn’t capable at 1000+ yards for punching paper. I use 168 grain projectiles with 45 grains of Varget and get solid groups well out to 1200+ yards. Now a gas gun is capable of this as well but you’re going to have to invest in quality parts. Barrel, gas block, BCG, trigger are all things I would really look at if building long range gas gun. Build something like a SR-25 clone and you’d be set. Can be built to be .308 instead of 6.5.

@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 when you say clone your talking aero or PSA or what ever and then get the best barrel bcg trigger gas block I can? May I ask if you were doing this and needed a factory’s gun I can change parts we just talked about I just don’t have confidence to build complete gun. What brands do you think I can get away with I’ve seen aero, PSA, stag, S&w have 308/6.5 for 1500 or less. Figure with some ammo money for a LR class. Am I crazy? My problem is in Illinois nobody wants to talk about stuff like this, Im surrounded. If you have Ideas that’s cool, I think on the other hand I’m gonna get a savage so I have bolt also and it’s half what a tikka cost. Thank you.

@@myanaloglife9450 I actually really like Stag Arms upper and lowers. They are not DPMS pattern though so you would need to make sure you buy the upper and lower together from Stag (they do take DPMS barrels). Otherwise, I would recommend Aero. Those are my go to brands for stripped uppers and lowers. From there I build everything out custom. As far as a clone goes, I meant more of building to the specs of the SR-25. Definitely go with a good BCG, such as Aero. Go with an adjustable gas block to really fine tune your gas cycling. Go with at least an 18-20” barrel for .308 or 20-22” barrel for 6.5 and rifle length gas tube. And for barrels look at brands like Faxon, BSF, Wilson Combat, or Aero. You would also want to make sure you invest in a good stock, something with adjustable comb for good optics. Magpul PRS would be my recommendation for this. Now, if you do the math on a build like that, you could have already bought a Gucci Savage 110 with all the bells and whistles. Look at the Savage 110 ultralight. Proof Research carbon fiber barrel that is an absolute tack driver along with their full aluminum bedded accustock that allows you to customize length of pull and comb to your needs.

I like Tikka but they don't do 7 PRC. For the barrel and light weight I'm thinking the 110 Ultralite. Might not have buttery smooth sako style action but it's hard to have everything at this price point.
