In this video I salvage some wood from some hardwood window frames and doors. There was a real mixture of solid timber, laminated and fingerjointed staves of hardwood and face veneers, but well worth the effort! Free wood is the best kind of wood. I'm not sure what species of wood these are, there's probably some meranti and mahogany in there among others... This wood will be used to build a rocking chair for the Karl Pope Woodcraft Build A Chair Challenge on 5th December.

Thin slices of that length made up of so many bits and pieces (18!) would make very pretty wall art when fitted together and placed in a frame. I watched your chair video and enjoyed it, and this one is a good learning experience in the value of not just disposing of old timber.

I recently had the windows in my house replaced. The old reveals were also removed however I ask them to leave the old hardwood frames and reveals. After removing nails and milling the timber, I have some absolute beautiful timber that will be repurposed. The timber must be around 70 years old and is beautiful

Not because you might safe a few quid, but because it is ecological and gives the wood its worth back beeing used a second time. We need more japanese influenced behaviour building furniture. At least, I think so. Regards, Etna.

Tables are often a good source of wood. With a bit of searching you can find oak or teak tables for very little money, or even free. Our local second hand shop has their prices ranging from 10 to 40 euros for instance and they regularly get those old fashioned heavy dark oak tables in.

Interesting video, thanks, do you ever put painted wood through your planer thicknesser? Also as a tip, old wooden conservatories can be an amazing source of good quality timber (I got huge amounts of African Mahogany from ours), double glazing companies often have skips which it all goes into which they often don't mind people scavenging from.
