This was the year that a couple of us Houston racers were extremely pissed that we weren't allowed to run. It is what planted hatred in my heart towards Limpy and Dallas in general. We were told that our 100% street cars(one of mine even passed emissions) that were built to be driven on the road had various advantages that didn't make it fair in an 1/8th mile race. My turbo car was on 10.5's all around and I was running a conventional sintered clutch. It was a factory block, standard suspension setup with a 10 gallon fuel cell and full cooling system. The thing weighed almost 3,200lbs with me in it. It wasn't even an 1/8th car, it was a 1/4 car geared for 200+(this was way before cars were touching 200 in the 1/8). Houston was way faster than Dallas and OKC but we never got to show off. This is one reason why we stalked Rankin Road 3 nights a week. We wanted races and none of those guys would let us in. Rankin was a shit spot in terms of the street condition but it is absolutely legendary in terms of racing. The lanes were so narrow that any mistake would cost you the race. There were also deep ditches on both sides and an extremely short shut down that ended in a hard left corner. That is where Birdman and the Luv truck beat the shit out of us every month. Big Turkey also fucked us up on occasion. I'll never get over them not letting us race. We had money and fast cars.

It's cool seeing footage from nearly a decade ago from some of the places I used to see races a decade before that. That Shell station towards the end was nearly always the meet up spot on weekends back in the late 90s/early 2000s.

These cash days DVDs are what really got me into grudge and street racing I seen my first one in like 2006 when I was 15 or 16 I had been bracket racing since I was 8 in gocarts and four wheelers at our local track and got in my paws paws old reliable 8.0(1/8) 81 Camaro for a season then seen the DVD and had get some action I talked my paw paw into helping me get my uncle's bracket car, back halfed 77 vega with a mean lil 377 with a glide and 9" it was on 30×14.5's so first thing it got new Centerline Convo Pro wheels and some Hoosier 28x10.5w's got rid of the wheelie bars, pulled the big nasty solid roller out of it went with a nice hydraulic roller blower cam, some MLS head gaskets and traded my 400EX for a weiand 177 blower that was pretty and black lol and found a used quick fuel 900cfm alchohol carb and a nice PTC converter, I raced the shit out of that car for almost 3 years lol my Preacher paw paw coming and helping me at street races and every where else and never bet a penny on any races if it wasnt for him I could have never done any of it. We went all over Alabama running N/T shoot outs grudge racing and a decent amount of street stuff in 07,08 and 09, I wrecked the car in October 2009 at Huntsville Alabama after goin goin out in the semifinals in 28" shootout me and a guy who went out first round wanted to run for 800 the car went up almost on the bumper alot higher than I thought went it came down hard and me not being very experienced I got right back in it when it bounced went right back up it came back down I went into the left lane and tagged the wall hard broke my collar bone and wrist that was the end of the vega it was totaled, after that I went to and stuck with nitrous then turbo 4th gen f bodys

Man this brings it back. I remember some of those spots or others like California Crossing outside of Irving or over at the 635 interchange in the industrial parks. Got the same speach from Dallas PD and the racing or loitering ticket if my license was suspended. Raced in Grand Prairie a lot and would hood race in South Dallas. Sundays head over to Yellow Belly drag strip and make some money off all the 5.0 mustangs that thought they were fast. Good old days.
